The Customs Broker provides professional assistance and advice on customs, quarantine and import and export matters, clear goods through Customs and to their destination on behalf of the company

THIS POSITION IS OPEN ONLY TO NATIONALS OF TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO AND THOSE HOLDING VALID AUTHORIZATION TO WORK IN THE COUNTRY. MUST BE LIVING IN THE COUNTRY AT THE PRESENT TIME.

 

Our client in the located in the Port of Spain is seeking to fill the position of a Customs Broker 


Salary: $6,500.00 plus $1,500.00 travelling

 

Special Requirements  

  • The incumbent must be willing to work extended hours, and remain flexible in the event of emergencies, or other business requirements.
  • Must have valid Drivers License and use of a vehicle.


Main Duties and Responsibilities 

 

  • Provide information to importers on customs tariffs including rates of duty and the methods of goods clearance.
  • Provide advice to clients on export and import restrictions, tariff systems, letters of credit, insurance requirements and other custom related matters.
  • Prepare and process import/export documents and other forms on behalf of the company according to customs regulations, laws and procedures.
  • Sign import/export documents on behalf of the company, using power of attorney.
  • Arrange for payment of duties, taxes, storage and transportation of imported goods and bonds to cover duty goods.
  • Liaise with the Trinidad and Tobago Customs Service and other government authorities in the correct clearance of goods through customs and quarantine.
  • Advise on tariff classifications, tariff concessions, appraisals and overseas trade enquiries.
  • Quote duty and tax rates on commodities for clients.
  • Liaise with the SCM for the early receipt of documentation for incoming shipments to ensure early preparation of customs entry forms for submission to the Custom & Excise departments for approval.
  • Daily meeting with the SCM for receipt of paperwork for processing the relative customs documentation for submission to the Customs & Excise division for approvals.
  • Daily checking with the Customs Division for the return of documents which once approved are submitted to the AP Accountant for preparation of Cheques for payment to the customs and consequent clearance of goods.
  • Actual clearance of the goods from the various ports of entry once all the relative paperwork is in place and all payments have been effected.
  • Management of the incoming deliveries from the docks/airport and procurement of transport to accommodate same.
  • May represent client before administrative tribunals or in other dealings with government officials.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

 

Credentials and Experience 

  • Usually requires a Bachelor degree in Business or Business Administration, related experience and/or training; or, equivalent combination of education related to Economics, Business or International Trade, or a Certified Customs Specialist designation.
  • 3 - 5 years work related experience in a Customs Broker environment.
