Quantum Legal seeks a detail-oriented, organised, and self-motivated Criminal Attorney to join our dynamic legal team.
Key Responsibilities
• Represent clients in criminal matters at all stages, including police station visits, bail applications, preliminary inquiries, trials, sentencing hearings, and appeals.
• Prepare and file court documents, including legal submissions, affidavits, and motions.
• Conduct legal research and draft legal opinions on complex criminal matters.
• Attend court hearings and liaise with court officials, police officers, prosecutors, and other stakeholders.
• Maintain accurate and comprehensive client records using Clio Legal Software, with a minimum 65% utilization rate monthly.
• Provide legal advice to clients, keeping them informed of case progress and legal options.
• Schedule and attend client interviews, manage appointments, and conduct follow-ups.
• Bill and collect legal fees in accordance with firm policy.
• Travel outside of Port-of-Spain when required for court appearances, service of documents, or client consultations.
• Ensure compliance with the Quantum Legal Employee Guidelines and Policies Handbook.
• Maintain a safe, confidential, and professional working environment in line with firm standards.
• Assist with general office duties, including answering phones, managing correspondence, and ensuring proper visitor protocols.
• Demonstrate continuous professional development and contribute to performance improvement within the firm.
Required Qualifications and Skills
• Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) and Legal Education Certificate (LEC) from a recognized institution.
• Admission to practice law in Trinidad and Tobago.
• Minimum of 7 years' experience in criminal law practice preferred.
• Strong knowledge of criminal procedure, evidence, and applicable laws.
• Excellent courtroom advocacy and negotiation skills.
• High degree of confidentiality, professionalism, and integrity.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Word, Excel, and SharePoint).
• Experience using legal practice management software (preferably Clio).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and handle high-pressure situations with composure
