Credit Officer

JOB SUMMARY:

The Credit Officer is responsible for driving collections within an assigned portfolio, focusing on reducing aged receivables, improving cash flow, and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships. The role requires proactive field engagement, analytical rigor, and the ability to navigate complex organizational payment processes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Proactively visit assigned public sector customers to follow up on overdue invoices.
  • Drive collections on aged receivables, especially long-outstanding balances.
  • Secure firm payment commitments with clear timelines.
  • Prepare daily lodgements for assigned institutional accounts.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key financial and administrative stakeholders across assigned accounts.
  • Navigate complex organizational processes, including payment cycles, budget approvals, and treasury disbursement timelines.
  • Identify and resolve payment delays caused by invoice discrepancies, missing documentation, and delivery confirmation gaps.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams to resolve issues and support operations.
  • Ensure accurate and timely account reconciliation for each assigned account.
  • Contribute to reducing Days Sales Outstanding and improving the cash conversion cycle.
  • Track and report on collection progress versus targets and high-risk accounts.
  • Maintain accurate records of customer visits, collection discussions, and payment commitments.
  • Prepare monthly reports, including aging analysis updates and escalation items.
  • Ensure adherence to internal credit policies and audit/compliance standards.
  • Conduct all collection activities with integrity, professionalism, and transparency.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in:
  • Experience working with:
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel island-wide
    • Credit control or collections
    • Accounts receivable management
    • Public sector entities in Jamaica (highly preferred)
    • Healthcare or pharmaceutical distribution (a strong advantage)

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of:
    • Accounts receivable processes
    • Credit management principles
    • Financial documentation and reconciliation
  • Proficiency in:
    • Microsoft Excel
    • ERP/accounting systems
