Cost Accountant

Roberts Manufacturing Co. Limited (RMCO), a SQF certified manufacturer of shortening, margarine, soybean oil, animal feeds and dog food, invites suitably qualified applicants for the post of COST ACCOUNTANT. The specifics for the post are as follows:

PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF JOB

The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of manufacturing and production costing analysis and inventory to effectively measure profitability, explain variances and aid in decision-making.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Conduct cost analysis for all manufacturing processes and products to ensure accurate costing and pricing strategies.
2. Monitor and analyse all direct labour, overhead and other manufacturing-related expenses to identify areas for cost reduction and efficiency improvement.
3. Maintain accurate inventory records, actively participating in monthly inventory counts to ensure proper valuation, control, and ongoing accuracy of inventory records.
4. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement cost-saving initiatives and process improvements.
5. Prepare and analyse monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports including variance analysis and profitability reports.
6. Provide financial support and insights to management for decision-making related to production planning, pricing strategies, and resource allocation.
7. Implement cost accounting improvements and other financial strategies to increase overall efficiency.
8. Assist in the development and maintenance of standard costing systems and procedures.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS AND EXPERIENCE

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
• Must possess a recognized accounting designation.
• 5-6 years’ experience in cost accounting within a manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency in cost accounting principles, practices and techniques.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and identify trends and variances.
• Must possess excellent interpersonal skills to work with cross-functional teams.
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft GP or similar ERP system.
