The Construction Supervisor will be responsible for ensuring that the Company’s construction activities are executed in accordance with design specifications and the requirements of the statutory and other approval agencies, and that quality standards are met.

CORE FUNCTIONS:

The Construction Supervisor will be responsible for ensuring that the Company’s construction activities are executed in accordance with design specifications and the requirements of the statutory and other approval agencies, and that quality standards are met.  This includes oversight of the construction activities that take place on the Company’s work sites and the supervision of the General Contractors and Subcontractors.  All work crews and individuals on site will take their direction from the Construction Supervisor via their own Supervisors, the Construction Supervisor knowing the details of the work to be done.  He will assist the respective Project Manager(s) in ensuring that the goals of the program are achieved.

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Review all drawings and specifications for assigned projects ensuring consistency across drawings, and highlighting any inconsistencies to the Project Manager for rectification prior to construction, thereby facilitating ease of construction.
  2. Interpret specifications highlighting deviations from specified civil procedures to the Project Manager, to ensure full compliance with QA/QC inspection plans and procedures.  
  3. Oversee construction of Road and drainage infrastructure, water and sewer infrastructure and other civil associated works alongside our Engineering surveyors and project lead to ensure full compliance with engineering designs, specification and statutory bodies.
  4. On each project, ensure that construction is in accordance with the drawings and specifications, and that the quality standards described in the contract documents are being met.
  5. Ensure that the Contractors’ Foremen and Lead men understand and implement the work plan, by explaining and engaging in proactive communication with the crews.
  6. Supervise and lead Foremen, Lead men, skilled labour, and work crews in all activities for assigned projects.
  7. Liaise with other disciplines to ensure the optimum interface of the various operational activities, with the overall objective of successful completion of the project.
  8. Monitor and track daily progress and work completed, comparing planned to actual, and taking appropriate mitigating action to ensure compliance with the plan, based on knowledge of available manpower, equipment, materials.   
  9. Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements associated with the implementation of assigned projects.
  10. Any other duties as required, within his/her competence.

 

AUTHORITY:

  1. To direct all Foremen, Lead men, skilled labour, and work crews to ensure completion of projects on time and in accordance with contract specifications.

RELATIONSHIPS:

  1. Works closely with the Project Manager in maintaining project timeline and quality control.
  2. Works closely with the Construction team in ensuring quality of construction.
  3. Organises site personnel under his control and monitors their performance and safety.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  1. Ability to supervise and direct workers and command their respect
  2. Ability to give instructions and transfer knowledge in an efficient and effective way to co‐workers and staff
  3. Ability to verify grades, alignment, and conduct tests required for water and sewer infrastructural works
  4. Ability to direct and oversee road and drainage construction at various stages of construction
  5. Ability to schedule work activity and multitask
  6. Extensive knowledge of land development and building construction acquired through formal training and field experience
  7. Competent in reading and understanding Specifications, drawings, and all other discipline related project and engineering documentation
  8. Ability to critically assess craftsmanship
  9. Good problem-solving skills
  10. Good communication skills
  11. Good interpersonal skills
  12. Computer literacy with competence in the use of the Microsoft Suite of tools will be an asset.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Diploma in Construction, Civil engineering or equivalent from a recognized institution.
  2. Minimum of Five (5) years’ experience in supervising infrastructural works namely water and sewer installations and road and drainage construction.
  3. Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
