About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Compliance Officer to lead our Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Counter-Financing of Terrorism (CFT) Programme. This position plays a critical role in safeguarding the Credit Union’s integrity, ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations, and acting as the chief liaison with the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU). The Compliance Officer protects the Credit Union from reputational, financial, and legal risks, while supporting a culture of integrity and accountability across the organization.

 The position reports directly to the Board of Directors, with an administrative reporting relationship to the CEO.


Key Responsibilities

As Compliance Officer, you will:

  • Coordinate and oversee the Credit Union’s Compliance Programme in line with the Financial Obligations Regulations (FOR).
  • Develop, review, and maintain compliance policies, procedures, and practices across operations, marketing, and advertising.
  • Monitor regulatory lists (FATF, UN, local terrorism listings, etc.) and update staff on changes.
  • Receive, review, and report Suspicious Activity/Transaction Reports (SARs/STRs) to the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU).
  • Maintain accurate records of Source of Funds, registers, and terrorist watch lists as required by legislation.
  • Monitor international and local regulatory lists (FATF, UN, Trinidad & Tobago Consolidated List, etc.) to ensure the Credit Union remains compliant.
  • Coordinate AML/CFT training for the Board, Committees, and employees, ensuring proper documentation of training activities.
  • Conduct periodic compliance audits, ensuring proactive risk management and reporting outcomes to the Board.
  • Submit required reports to regulators on a timely basis and present monthly compliance updates to the Board.
  • Stay current on compliance-related legislation, attending training and workshops as required.

What We’re Looking For.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, Finance, Accounting, or related field.
  • A Master’s Degree would be considered an asset.
  • Professional certification such as ACCA, CISA, CIA, or in Risk/Compliance.
  • 3–5 years’ experience in regulatory compliance or auditing
  • Strong knowledge of financial institution policies, Credit Union operations, and relevant legislation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and report preparation.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication and decision-making skills.
  • High ethical standards and sound professional judgment.
  • Relevant combination of experience and qualifications will be considered.
