JOB SUMMARY

The Clinical Facilitator provides staff development expertise as an educator, facilitator, change agent, leader and researcher. The post holder will co-ordinate and facilitate the educational activities of general and subspecialty nurses and other clinical and allied health staff to promote evidenced based learning in the development of clinical practice and continuous education towards optimal patient management.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identifies education needs and plans, implements and evaluates formal and informal educational programmes within a formal and clinical setting utilising effective presentation skills.
  • Supports the implementation of changes in nursing practice based on evidence, research, audit findings, service improvement needs and best practice.
  • Works in conjunction with clinical ward teams in the assessment and audit of staff clinical skills.
  • Collaborates with manager/supervisors/ heads of departments in working with staff who are under performing, providing objective assessment, setting action plans, evaluating and reviewing performance.
  • Provides professional nursing advice and guidance.
  • Keeps up-to-date with professional issues in clinical practice and changes policies and practices of the Authority.
  • Develops, facilitates and delivers training modules as required.
  • Acts as an educational/professional resource to empower senior nurses and other clinicians within own area to manage staff and resources effectively, and provide opportunities for development where appropriate.
  • Participates in training interviews to allow for the appropriate selection of staff to pursue training programmes.
  • Assists with the development of career pathways to enable staff development and succession planning.
  • Accesses and disseminates research literature, setting up discussion groups related to clinical practice.
  • Acts as a mentor/coach to enhance the performance and capability of staff.
  • Participates in the delivery of training programmes by co-ordinating study days in line with service requirements ensuring translation of learning into competent practical skills.
  • Identifies new ideas, innovations, methods and developments.
  • Maintains records of the various expenses incurred in the roll-out of training initiatives.
  • Implements evaluation and monitoring tools based on the guidelines of the Authority.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited educational institution.
  • Experience as a training facilitator would be an asset.
  • Three (3) years applied clinical experience as an RN and evidence of training as a Clinical Educator or Instructor.
  • A Master’s Degree in Nursing may substituted for 2 years of required experience.
  • BLS or ACLS Provider/Instructor level certification is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Ability to plan seminars, workshops, conferences and training programmes.
  • Ability to convey complex concepts clearly and effectively.
  • Excellent analytical, excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Good command of documentation management both manual and computerized.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite. 
  • Strong computer skills with Word, Excel, Outlook, Project and PowerPoint required.
  • Good organization and time management/project management skills.
