CLINIC ASSISTANT

Based in St. James

Reporting to the Industrial Nurse, this position is responsible for maintaining a hygienic health station and providing first aid assistance to patients when required. The incumbent is also responsible for performing clerical functions and using initiative in carrying out certain duties in the absence of the Nurse.

 

OTHER Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Sterilizing surgical instruments and containers.
  • Providing basic first aid and routine assistance.
  • Assisting with routine tests carried out at the clinic during the doctor’s visit, including writing employees’ medical history cards, taking employees’ weight, testing employees’ vision, testing urine samples, testing blood sugar levels, checking blood pressure, and taking employees’ temperature.
  • Logging incoming and outgoing documents.
  • Maintaining a repository of documents used at the Wellness Centre.
  • Monitoring and replenishing toiletries, stationery, and refreshment items.
  • Carrying out administrative duties such as answering the telephone, filing, typing, copying, binding, and scanning.
  • Assisting with follow-up calls to patients, preparing health insurance claims for doctors, and conducting periodic inventory of supplies and equipment.

Ideally, the successful applicant should possess:

  • Practical Nurse Certification.
  • Completion of secondary education with a minimum of three (3) CSEC or GCE subjects, including English Language.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training.
  • At least one (1) year of on-the-job training.
  • Knowledge of the use and operation of an autoclave.
  • Knowledge of different types of over-the-counter medications.
  • Knowledge of the application of slings and bandages.
  • Knowledge of proper procedures for cleaning and dressing wounds.
