Christel House Jamaica seeks a highly skilled Child Psychologist (Consultant) to provide assessments, counselling and therapeutic support for student wellbeing and development.

 CHILD PSYCHOLOGIST (CONSULTANT)

The role involves assessing student needs, developing individualized intervention plans, delivering evidence-based therapeutic services, and monitoring student progress to ensure students are supported to learn and thrive.

Duties and Responsibilities

1.     Psychological Assessment and Intervention

  • Conduct psychological assessments and screenings for students.
  • Identify emotional, behavioral, developmental, and learning challenges affecting students.
  • Develop and implement individualised intervention and behavior support plans.
  • Provide individual, group, and family counselling and therapeutic services.
  • Deliver age-appropriate, evidence-based psychological interventions.
  • Monitor, document, and evaluate student progress and outcomes.
  • Prepare psychological reports, case notes, and professional recommendations.

 2.     Student Support Collaboration

  • Provide guidance to teachers and school staff on managing students’ emotional and behavioural needs.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary case conferences and student support meetings.
  • Collaborate with parents, caregivers, and external service providers when necessary.
  • Support crisis intervention and safeguarding processes.
  • Promote positive mental health, resilience, and social-emotional learning among students.

 3.     Prevention Wellbeing and Initiatives

  • Contribute to preventative mental health programmes and psycho-educational workshops.
  • Support school-wide student wellbeing initiatives.
  • Promote and uphold the Christel House model, values, and culture.

 4.     Compliance and Professional Practise

  • Ensure adherence to Jamaican labour laws and Christel House International HR standards.
  • Ensure compliance with ethical standards, child protection policies, and confidentiality requirements.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date student records.
  • Participate in professional development, training, and workshops.
  • Support organisational initiatives and programmes aligned with student wellbeing.
  • Perform any other duties assigned within the scope of the role.

Qualifications and Experience

Minimum Qualification and Experience:

  • Master’s Degree in Child Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Counselling Psychology, or a related discipline.
  • Licensed as a Counsellor with the Council of Professions Supplementary to Medicine (CPSM) in Jamaica, or eligible for registration.
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience working with children in a school, clinical, or social services setting.
  • Training in therapeutic interventions such as Play Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), or Trauma-Focused Approaches would be an asset.
  • Experience in educational assessment would be an asset.

Required Skills and Specialised Techniques

  • In-depth knowledge of child and adolescent development.
  • Strong understanding of behavioural, emotional, learning, and developmental disorders.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed and child-centred therapeutic approaches.
  • Strong psychological assessment, observation, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent counselling, therapeutic, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills when engaging with students, parents, and staff.
  • Ability to prepare psychological reports, maintain case documentation, and manage confidential information.
  • High level of emotional intelligence, empathy, and professionalism.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Strong problem-solving, time management, and organisational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and electronic record systems.

Special Working Conditions

Must be able to engage in physical activity and student interaction within the school environment.
