JOB SUMMARY

The Chief Finance Officer is a member of the executive team with responsibility for managing all matters pertaining to Finance and ensuring integrity, accuracy and completeness of financial data.

The work involves responsibility for providing financial reports to internal and external stakeholders.  The incumbent in this position exercises considerable judgment in planning, installing, revising, and maintaining accounting procedures in preparation of statements and reports. 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Financial Planning and Analysis: Develop and execute financial strategies, including budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning. Analyse financial data and provide insights to support strategic decision-making. 
  • Financial Reporting: Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting to internal and external stakeholders, including management, board of directors, investors, and regulatory authorities. Make quarterly recommendations to the board of directors and executive management team as to how to stay on target with the business plan.
  • Treasury Management: Manage the organization's cash flow, liquidity, and investments. Optimize working capital management and develop strategies to maximize returns on surplus funds while minimizing financial costs and risks.
  • Financial Compliance: Ensure compliance with financial regulations, accounting standards, and internal policies. Coordinate financial audits and reviews, and liaise with auditors, regulators, and other stakeholders as necessary.
  • Financial Controls: Establish and maintain robust financial controls and procedures to safeguard assets, prevent fraud, and ensure accuracy and integrity of financial reporting.
  • Strategic Leadership: Provide strategic financial leadership and guidance to the executive team and the board of directors. Collaborate with other functional areas to achieve organizational goals and objectives.
  • Stakeholder Relations: Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including lenders and government agencies. Communicate financial performance, strategies, and risks effectively to internal and external audiences.
  • Team Management: Lead and develop the finance team, including hiring, training, and performance management. Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the finance function.
  • Payroll: Responsible for processing monthly payroll and all associated obligations.
  • Capital Management: Ensure that the Bank’s Capital (equity) is effectively and efficiently used in line with the Bank’s risk appetite and Capital management guidelines in keeping with the overall guidelines/regulations of the Central bank of Trinidad and Tobago (CBTT).
  • Signatory: Authorised banking signatory.
  • Establish and lead the Department’s identification, reporting and monitoring of operational risks within the existing guidelines and ensure compliance.
  • Member of the Procurement and Disposal Advisory Committee (PDAC).
  • Assist with the preparation of the banks’ strategic business plan.
  • Any other related duties that may arise as indicated by the Chief Executive Officer or Board of Directors.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Fellowship of Chartered Certified Accountants or any other related qualification.         
  • Five (5) years’ experience performing senior accounting duties, including three  (3)  in a managerial capacity in a financial institution will be an asset.
  • Experience in Treasury Management will also be an asset.
  • Extensive knowledge of the International Accounting Standards (IAS) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • Extensive knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of T&T statutory requirements.
  • Considerable knowledge of all the Financial Acts (FIU, FIA Insurance, Central Bank) 
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and to prepare and submit comprehensive reports.

 COMPETENCIES

  • Knowledge of statistical and other research methods and procedures.
  • Ability to evaluate subordinates’ performance.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in analyzing facts and arriving at conclusions.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion in establishing, applying and interpreting policies and procedures. 
  • Ability to prepare presentations and reports.
  • Ability to function in a technology-prevalent environment
  • In depth knowledge of IT software systems and programs.
  • Ability to follow complex oral and written instructions. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively (both orally and written). 
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with all levels of the organisation.
  • A good leader and educator who is trustworthy, willing to share information and serve as a mentor.
