Chief Accountant

The incumbent will be responsible for overseeing all accounting operations of the company, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, compliance with statutory requirements, and effective financial management within both the manufacturing and distribution functions.

We are a fast-moving medium-sized Distribution and Manufacturing Company seeking to identify a suitably qualified individual for the position Chief Accountant for our Kingston location: 

Summary: The incumbent will be responsible for overseeing all accounting operations of the company, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, compliance with statutory requirements, and effective financial management within both the manufacturing and distribution functions.

Key Functions:

Financial Reporting & Accounting

• Oversee preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards (e.g., IFRS/GAAP).
•  Manage general ledger, journal entries, reconciliations, and closing processes.
• Review and approve balance sheet reconciliations.

Compliance & Taxation 

•  Ensure compliance with tax laws (GCT, corporate tax, withholding tax, etc.).
•  Coordinate external audits and liaise with auditors.
• Maintain proper documentation for statutory and regulatory requirements.

Internal Controls & Risk Management

•  Establish and maintain strong internal control systems.
• Implement policies and procedures for financial governance.
•  Identify financial risks and recommend mitigation strategies.

Team Leadership

• Supervise accounting staff.
•  Provide training and performance evaluations.
•  Ensure efficiency and accuracy within the finance department.

Minimum Requirement & Competencies:

•   Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field
•   Professional certification (CPA, ACCA, CMA, or equivalent) preferred.
•   Minimum 5–8 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in manufacturing/distribution.
•   Strong knowledge of cost accounting and inventory management.
•  Proficiency in ERP systems and accounting software.
•  Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Strong analytical, leadership, and communication skills.
