Responsible for developing, optimizing, and managing ink formulations and processes to ensure consistent quality, performance, and efficiency in flexographic printing operations.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Ink Formulation & Development

    • Design and optimize ink formulations tailored for flexographic printing (e.g., water-based, UV-curable, or solvent-based inks).

    • Evaluate raw materials (resins, pigments, solvents, additives) and manage compatibility.

    • Conduct lab-scale trials and translate results to manufacturing scale.

  2. Process Optimization & Technical Support

    • Monitor and fine-tune production processes to enhance ink performance and consistency.

    • Collaborate with operations to troubleshoot production issues—such as ink consistency, viscosity, drying behavior, or print defects.

  3. Quality Assurance & Testing

    • Employ tools like spectrophotometers to conduct color matching, colorimetric analysis, viscosity, pH, and rheological testing.

    • Maintain rigorous record-keeping for formulations, tests, and batch data.

    • Conduct root-cause analyses for quality deviations and implement corrective actions.

  4. Inventory & Materials Management

    • Oversee stocks of inks, pigments, resins, and additives.

    • Forecast material consumption and manage supply chain interactions to ensure formulation materials are in stock.

  5. Safety & Environmental Compliance

    • Ensure safe handling, storage, and disposal of chemical substances.

    • Maintain a clean, organized ink room, and support sustainability efforts like ink reclaim or recycling.

  6. Cross-Functional Collaboration

    • Work closely with production, quality control, maintenance, and R&D teams to align ink performance with operational and product objectives.

    • Assist in process change implementations and document changes for compliance and traceability.

  7. Documentation & Reporting

    • Keep ink formulation logs current and accurate.

    • Prepare technical reports, SOPs, and troubleshooting records.

  • Education: Bachelor’s in Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • Experience: Preferably 1-3 years in inks, or related industries like flexographic printing.

  • Technical Skills:

    • Deep understanding of color theory, pigments, additives, and rheology.

    • Practical expertise with analytical tools such as viscometers, spectrophotometers, and pH testers.

    • Strong documentation and data management abilities.

  • Soft Skills:

    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.

    • Effective communication and teamwork.

    • Proactive mindset and ability to work independently in a busy production environment.

  • Other:

    • Awareness of environmental and safety regulations.

    • Familiarity with quality systems (e.g., ISO) or PSM is a plus.
