The Cashier is a critical customer-facing role, responsible for processing transactions, providing excellent service. Operating in a dynamic retail environment, this position plays a pivotal role in ensuring smooth day-to-day operations while enhancing the customer experience.
Primary Responsibilities
Process Transactions
• Handle customer payments and operate cash registers with accuracy and efficiency.
• Process various transactions, including cash, credit card, and cheque payments, adhering to company policies.
Manage Cash & Credit Transactions
• Accept, process, and verify payments in different formats.
• Ensure all transactions are recorded accurately in compliance with financial controls
Handle Customer Enquiries
• Respond promptly and professionally to customer questions.
• Resolve minor issues, manage complaints, and direct customers to appropriate personnel for specialized assistance.
Operate SAP System
• Use SAP software for transaction processing, including updating payments to sales orders, processing invoices, and balancing the cash drawer.
Count and Balance Cash
• Perform cash counts and reconcile discrepancies during and at the end of shifts.
• Ensure the till is balanced and discrepancies are reported immediately.
Refunds and Returns Processing
• Manage refunds, exchanges, or returns in line with company policies and ensure proper documentation.
Upselling and Cross-Selling
• Recommend related products or promotions to enhance customer satisfaction and drive sales.
Skills and Competencies
• Numerical Accuracy: Precision in counting and processing payments.
• Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to handle minor issues effectively and escalate when necessary. • Customer Service: Strong communication and interpersonal skills to ensure customer satisfaction.
Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with SAP or similar transaction management systems.
Qualifications and Experience
• Education: High school diploma or equivalent; includive of Mathematics and English. Additional training in customer service or accounting is an asset.
• Experience: Previous cashier or customer service experience preferred. Proficiency in SAP or similar systems is advantageous.
