Cashier (Kingston)

Aventa Jamaica is seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Cashier to join its Finance team. This role is critical to the accurate receipt, processing, and reconciliation of customer and contractor payments, in accordance with established credit terms and company policies

Position Summary

The Cashier will be responsible for receiving and processing cash and non-cash payments, updating customer accounts, preparing daily cash reports, and ensuring accurate reconciliation of all collections. The role reports to the Accounts Receivable Supervisor and operates within established financial controls and procedures

Key Responsibilities

Core Duties

  • Verify cash, cheques, and sales invoices against delivery logs submitted by delivery contractors.
  • Process and accurately record non-cash transactions, including debit and credit card payments.
  • Receive customer payments and ensure official receipts are properly issued.
  • Prepare and reconcile cash, cheque, and card payments to the Daily Cash Report.
  • Reconcile all accepted payment methods (cash, cheque, Linx, credit card) in accordance with established schedules.
  • Prepare daily bank deposits for secure transfer via the external security courier company.
  • Apply receipts accurately to customer Accounts Receivable (AR) accounts.
  • Maintain and manage the company’s petty cash float.
  • Maintain the Receipt Book Log, ensuring used receipt books are returned before new ones are issued

General Duties

  • Maintain an organized and secure filing system for accounts receivable logs and receipts.
  • Assist with stock-taking exercises as required.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures, including business conduct, health and safety, quality, and standard operating procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of organizational objectives

 

Qualifications & Experience

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least five (5) GCE/CXC O’Level passes, including English Language and Mathematics

Additional Certification

  • CAT certification or currently pursuing ACCA is required

Experience

  • Two (2) to three (3) years’ experience in an accounting or finance-related role

 

Knowledge, Skills & Competencies

  • Sound knowledge of general accounting principles and practices.
  • Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written).
  • Good organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Flexibility and willingness to adapt to operational demands.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
