We're hiring a Cashier for a Hardware in Kingston, Jamaica

The Cashier is responsible for accurately processing sales transactions, managing the cash register, assisting customers with payment inquiries, and ensuring exceptional customer service at all times. The ideal candidate will possess strong numerical skills, excellent interpersonal abilities, and experience operating cash registers in a retail environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Welcome customers courteously, addressing them promptly and professionally.

  • Accurately process sales transactions, including cash, debit, and credit card payments.

  • Issue receipts, refunds, change, or tickets to customers as appropriate.

  • Ensure the cash register area is tidy, secure, and fully stocked with necessary supplies.

  • Handle cash responsibly, ensuring the accuracy and security of all financial transactions.

  • Balance cash registers at the end of shifts, ensuring accurate reconciliation of daily sales.

  • Resolve customer complaints courteously, escalating significant issues to management as necessary.

  • Assist in merchandising and restocking shelves during quiet periods.

  • Maintain a clear understanding of products, pricing, and promotions to effectively assist customers.

  • Follow company policies regarding security, theft prevention, and customer privacy.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum 1 year of cashier or retail sales experience; hardware store experience is an asset.

  • Strong mathematical skills with accuracy in handling cash transactions.

  • Familiarity with electronic cash registers and point-of-sale (POS) systems.

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.

  • Detail-oriented and highly organized.

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks as required.

  • Flexible availability, including weekends and holidays.
