Responsible for assisting surgeons and anaesthesiologists in the operating room during open-heart surgery.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons to fill the following position at the North-Central Regional Health Authority (NCRHA):

    CARDIAC PERFUSIONIST

The incumbent will be responsible for assisting surgeons and anaesthesiologists in the operating room during open-heart surgery.

Main Responsibilities:-

• To fulfill the responsibilities of supporting the Off-Pump and On-Pump Services.
• Operate the heart-lung machine during cardiac surgery and other surgeries that require cardiopulmonary bypass including DHCA (the main responsibility is to support the physiological and metabolic needs of the cardiac surgery patient).
• Set-up and operate the bypass circuit, cell saver, point of care testing, IABP and haemodynamic monitoring.
• Assist with the Set-Up of Blowers and suction equipment to be used in the case.
• Read, understand and implement all policies and procedure guidelines.
• Collect and report quality improvement data as required.
• Ensure that all required documentation is done according to protocols established by the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex (EWMSC).
• Ensure that equipment is cleaned and functioning safely and preventative maintenance is scheduled and according to schedule.
• Maintain a consumable inventory and ensure that supplies are ordered, stocked and available when needed.
• Establish and maintain procedures to communicate and document potential or real equipment or consumable problems to the team leaders with advance notice.
• Be responsible for the maintenance of quality assurance and safety protocols in perfusion for each patient.
• Perform other related duties as directed by the appropriate organisational relationship.

Minimum Qualifications, Training and Experience:-

• Graduated from an accredited Perfusion Technology training programme and holding a Perfusion Technologies school diploma or certificate (N.B. Accreditation may be from the country or region of training or equivalent).
• At least three (3) to five (5) years of independent practice as a Certified Perfusionist.
• Certified with a Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion in the country/region of training or current practice.
• Any combination of experience and accreditation training as determined by the panel.

*Certificates acquired at foreign universities MUST be supported by certified transcripts as well as evidence that the completed programme is accredited in Trinidad and Tobago.
