Sagicor Bank Jamaica Limited is seeking a suitable candidate to join our Credit Risk (Asset Recoveries & Collections Unit) team in the capacity of:

Business Special Loans Officer

Assist with the management of delinquent commercial accounts, along with the administrative maintenance of the watchlist report process, to minimize the risk of financial loss in the bank’s credit portfolio.

Location: Kingston

As a Business Special Loans Officer, you will:

• Assist with the management of the Business Special Loans portfolio (loans/overdrafts).
• Conduct reviews within your portfolio to ensure strategies are in place and being adhered.
• Follow up for payments, initiate action against delinquent commercial clients, which includes liaising with external collectors, bailiffs, realtors and attorneys.
• Work in collaboration with Credit Risk Adjudication to identify and document accounts for special monitoring and reporting as watch-list.
• Attend meetings and document issues of concern that would cause a special mention status and document and monitor the strategies within timeline(s) agreed to address the irregularities identified.
• In conjunction with the Manager, Asset Recoveries & Collections Unit, monitor the loans & advances portfolio domiciled in CCB and SME. Follow up with officers in the respective business units to ensure that loans are being serviced as arranged.
• Monitor the portfolio of overdrawn commercial current accounts paying special attention to those operating with no approved limit or frequently in excess of the limit.
• In conjunction with Manager, Asset Recoveries & Collections Unit, review to recommend accounts to be removed from the watch-list report.
• Compile and complete the quarterly watchlist report in conjunction with Relationship Managers in CCB and Business Bankers in SME.
• Prepare the quarterly IFRS provisioning report.
• Monitor watch-listed accounts and follow up with the respective officers to ensure that strategies are being carried out in the agreed timelines.
• Manage the internal credit check process.
• Supporting Business Special Loans Manager to enhance the effective operation of the desk with effective follow-up of all action plans and milestones essential to the achievement of the goals and objectives.
• Perform other job-related duties assigned from time to time.

What do you need?

• Bachelor’s Degree in Management Studies, Economics, Statistics or equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution.
• Banking experience with emphasis in lending and or problem loans management.
• Sound knowledge of computer software packages including spreadsheet and word processing applications.
• Sound analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work with minimum supervision to meet deadlines.
• Self-motivated and uses initiative.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Has tenacity in meeting targets.
• High degree of confidentiality and professionalism.
