The Business Intelligence Specialist is responsible for aggregating data from multiple sources in an efficient data warehouse and designing enterprise-level solutions for very large multidimensional databases.

We are seeking to recruit a suitable candidate for the following position in the Information Technology Department:

 BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE SPECIALIST

Job Purpose:

The Business Intelligence Specialist is responsible for aggregating data from multiple sources in an efficient data warehouse and designing enterprise-level solutions for very large multidimensional databases. The role also pre-determines the suitability of products to meet objectives as outlined for the Business Intelligence framework.

Major Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Collaborates with the networking team to architect and integrate seamless hybrid-cloud connectivity, ensuring optimized traffic flow and secure synchronization between cloud services and on-premise infrastructure.
  • Oversees the installation, security, and continuous optimization and support Business Intelligence (BI) architecture and infrastructure to ensure maximum uptime, data integrity, and peak system performance.
  • Leads the integration efforts for merging BI platforms with enterprise systems and applications
  • Evaluates and selects database/data warehouse components, including hardware, relational database management systems, ETL software, metadata management tools and database design solutions
  • Proactively identifies and implements resilient, scalable technical solutions to address complex system challenges and improve operational efficiency.
  • Administers the end-to-end database lifecycle, including schema design, version upgrades, proactive maintenance, and the implementation of rigorous backup and recovery protocols to ensure data persistence and health.
  • Conducts research and makes recommendations on BI products, services and standards in support of procurement and development efforts
  • Designs, code, tests, and documents all new or modified BI systems, applications, and programs
  • Produces ETL design guidelines to ensure a manageable ETL infrastructure for the BI system
  • Analyses user requirements and, based on findings, design functional specifications for BI front-end applications
  • Assists in the design of databases and data warehouses to ensure interoperability with BI solutions
  • Develops the semantic layer, metadata, reports, and report definitions
  • Creates Management Views, reports that leverage the full feature set of BI to deliver information to meet user requirements with a focus on ease of use and intuitive navigation and use of best practices.
  • Designs, creates, reconciles, and publishes automated reports.
  • Writes relational and multidimensional database queries
  • Configures, deploys and maintains database servers
  • Installs, configures, customizes and troubleshoots Business Intelligence tools and applications.
  • Debugs, monitors, and troubleshoots BI solutions
  • Supports any new installs and future upgrades within BI environments.
  • Assists in building and maintaining the BI Reporting system.
  • Designs and delivers end-user training and training materials; provides technical support as necessary

Knowledge and Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Business Information Systems, or a related field
  • Microsoft Structured Query Language (SQL) certification
  • A minimum of four (4) years of similar experience in a Business Intelligence environment
  • Experience with data processing flowcharting techniques and database design applications, using MS SQL 2000 and later.
  • Comprehensive data warehouse analysis and design experience.
  • Demonstrated ability with MS Windows, UNIX, and AIX operating systems.
  • Strong understanding of relational database structures, theories, principles, and practices
  • Azure Administrator Certification will be an asset.
