A leading membership-based business organisation is seeking a dynamic Business Development & Marketing Manager to drive growth, deepen member engagement, and strengthen the organisation’s brand and revenue base.
The Role
The successful candidate will lead business development and member engagement, with responsibility for identifying and closing new business opportunities, strengthening relationships with existing members, and conceptualising and executing high-impact marketing and events initiatives.
You will be expected to operate at a senior, externally facing level, engaging confidently with CEOs, business leaders and key stakeholders, while also managing the day-to-day execution of campaigns, events and member programmes.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop and execute strategies to grow membership and revenues, including sponsorships, partnerships and new products or services.
• Build and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with members, prospects, and partners, ensuring consistently high levels of service and responsiveness.
• Act as a “closer” – actively pursue leads, follow through relentlessly, and do what is necessary (ethically and professionally) to secure new business and renewals.
• Conceptualise and implement creative marketing and brand-building initiatives, including digital campaigns, member features and thought-leadership activities.
• Lead the planning and execution of high-level events (forums, conferences, briefings, networking events) to a professional standard, suitable for senior private sector and public sector leaders.
• Use data and insights to track pipelines, segment members, monitor engagement and inform decision-making.
• Collaborate with internal teams to ensure marketing, communications, membership and business development activities are aligned and mutually reinforcing.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who is:
• Results-driven and commercially minded, with a proven track record of closing deals and meeting or exceeding business development targets.
• Exceptionally strong in customer relations and relationship management, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Prolific with ideas – able to see business opportunities where others do not and convert concepts into practical, revenue-generating initiatives.
• Experienced in high-level event planning and execution, including working with senior executives, sponsors and partners.
• Energetic, self-motivated and hands-on, willing to go the extra mile to get the job done.
• Highly proficient in the use of technology, especially CRM platforms, email marketing tools and social media for business engagement.
• Strong in organisation, planning and follow-up, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Required Qualifications: Relevant tertiary qualifications in Marketing, Business, Communications or a related field, along with at least 5–7 years’ experience in business development, marketing and/or membership-based or client-facing roles, will be a distinct advantage.
