The Business Development Officer will execute marketing and sales initiatives to promote Barbados as a leading tourism destination, in alignment with the strategic goals and objectives established.

BACKGROUND

The Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. in its quest to promote, assist and facilitate the efficient development of tourism and Barbados’ tourism product, is seeking to recruit exceptionally skilled individuals to fill the position of Business Development Officer.

 SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with the formulation and review of the annual marketing and sales programmes.
  • Represent Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. at industry events and networking functions.
  • Assist with preparing proposals for potential customers and industry stakeholders.
  • Conduct presentations to acquaint tourism stakeholders with Barbados’ products and services.
  • Assist with conducting research to identify potential clients and market trends.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of promotions and sales activities.
  • Conduct and follow up on sales calls/visits to maintain visibility of the Barbados tourism product.
  • Assist in managing customer and stakeholder inquiries.
  • Identify formal and informal decision-making structures and key influencers.
  • Collect and compile data for reports on department activities and customer/industry stakeholder interaction.
  • Update and manage travel agents, tour operators, and stakeholder databases.
  • Collaborate with marketing and other department teams to execute initiatives.

 SUMMARY OF KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Tourism, Marketing, Sales or a related discipline.
  • At least three (3) years’ proven experience in a Marketing, Sales or a Tourism environment.
  • Maintains a professional, diplomatic, and tactful disposition.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong interpersonal relationship and collaborative skills.
  • Proficient negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • The ability to coordinate, delegate and motivate.
  • Proactive, shows initiative and able to exercise independent judgment.
  • Able to work under pressure and adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
  • Commitment to the highest level of customer satisfaction.
  • Awareness of global trends in tourism, operations of international tourism markets and the Barbados tourism industry.
  • Good understanding of government policy, priorities and issues affecting tourism.
  • Fluency in English and working knowledge of another language would be a definite asset.
  • Strong planning, prioritising and time management skills.
  • Excellent oral, written and presentation communication skills.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office suite of applications and knowledge of e-marketing systems.
