Ensures financial procedures comply with relevant regulations and supports the institution's leadership with strategic financial planning.

Principal  Responsibilities:

The Bursar, under the direction of the Principal, will be responsible for:

  • Developing and monitoring the annual school budget in collaboration with the principal and school board.
  • Managing the day-to-day financial transactions, including accounts payable and receivable.
  • Maintaining accurate financial records and preparing regular financial reports
  • Preparing annual Statutory Returns.
  • Processing Fortnightly and Monthly Payrolls for teaching and non-teaching staff
  • Preparing reports for Board and Finance Committee Meetings (including scheduling and attending meetings).
  • Preparing monthly/quarterly requested reports for the Ministry of Education.
  • Meeting with staff, parents, and students to deal with Financial and Social concerns.
  • Preparing financial records for internal and external audits.
  •  Updating and maintaining the school’s financial system.
  • Monitoring spending against the budget and reporting variances to the Principal.
  • Ensuring that the payment of salaries and statutory obligations complies with the existing legislation.
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant financial regulations and school policies.
  • Ensuring that all other payments for goods and services are made in accordance with the required procedures.
  • Preparing the annual budgets for submission to and approval by the Principal/School Board.
  • Ensure timely payment of salaries, wages, and statutory deductions (e.g. taxes, pensions, etc.).

 

Competencies

  1. A Bachelor’s Degree in Management Studies/Business/Accounting or equivalent qualifications,
  2. Minimum of five (5) years’ experience working in similar capacity in an educational institution.

OR

  1. ACCA Level 2 or any equivalent accounting /management professional qualification
  2. Minimum of  three (3) years post qualification experience in Accounting.

             Training in Procurement Guidelines and Government Accounting.

Ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

Proficiency with MS Office Suite

Excellent communication, leadership and interpersonal skills

Strong organizational and analytical skills.

High level of integrity and attention to detail.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

The ability to meet stringent deadlines
