This position is responsible for coordinating all vessel arrival and departure husbandry services, as well as overseeing equipment and related support services on behalf of our principals while vessels are in port or operating within Jamaican waters.

 

Boarding Representative (Kingston)

 

We are seeking to hire an enthusiastic, customer-focused, and driven Boarding Representative to provide comprehensive vessel husbandry and agency services on behalf of our principals. The successful candidate will serve as a key liaison between ship owners/principals, vessel masters, local authorities, and service providers, ensuring seamless port calls and exceptional service delivery in accordance with company standards, policies, and regulatory requirements.

 

Main Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and manage vessel port calls from pre-arrival through departure.
  • Notify and liaise with relevant local authorities and agencies, including Customs, Immigration, Port Authority, Pilotage, and terminal operators, regarding vessel arrivals and departures.
  • Board vessels as required to represent principals and attend to vessel, crew, and operational needs.
  • Manage customer and principal relationships, ensuring timely communication and issue resolution.
  • Register vessels and process documentation within the Customs and other statutory electronic systems.
  • Update principals’ booking, voyage, and reporting systems accurately and within required timelines.
  • Monitor vendor accounts, review invoices, and ensure costs are aligned with approved tariffs and agreements.
  • Coordinate husbandry services including crew changes, medical assistance, supplies, repairs, and other port-related services.
  • Prepare and submit periodic operational, financial, and voyage reports to principals.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable local maritime laws, port regulations, and company procedures.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Customs, Immigration, Logistics & Supply Chain Management, Maritime Studies, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in the shipping or maritime agency industry.
  • Working knowledge of the Pilotage Act, Customs Act, Passport, Immigration Act, and the Port Authority of Jamaica Act.
  • Sound understanding of shipping operations, vessel documentation, and air and seaport operations.
  • Functional knowledge of principal and agency systems used within the shipping industry.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective negotiation and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple vessels or tasks simultaneously, and meet strict deadlines.
  • Willingness to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and public holidays, as operationally required.
