The Department of Health Services invites suitably qualified applicants to apply for the position of Biomedical Engineer.
Job functions
To install, calibrate, diagnose, inspect and repair medical equipment as well as perform inspections, preventative maintenance and testing of same, ensuring that equipment functions within the manufacturers’ specifications and code requirements and in a manner which is safe for both patients and staff while ensuring that all medical equipment within the Department of Health Services are maintained and serviced in a timely manner.
Key Duties
10. Liaises with the Director of Facilities on all matters related to the maintenance of medical equipment within the Princess Alexandra Hospital and associated clinics.
11. Works professionally and efficiently with all levels within the organization.
12. Adheres to all company employment policies and safety practices.
13. Provides direction for planned purchases and future development of hospital equipment.
14. Manages the Medical Equipment Preventative Maintenance Programme and schedules for the Princess Alexandra Hospital and associated clinics.
15. Participates in the management of the HAA disaster preparedness plan for the Princess Alexandra Hospital and associated clinics to mitigate against and in response to natural disasters.
16. Advises management on industry trends and developments in medical technology to ensure that the latest technology can be used.
17. Works closely with stakeholders of the healthcare team to ensure that medical equipment is properly integrated into the patient care processes.
18. Performs any other duties as required by the job function.
QUALIFICATIONS
The incumbent must have experience in biomedical engineering and understanding of procedures and skills in the maintenance of biomedical equipment and facilities and an ability to prepare cost estimates/maintenance budget, must have good interpersonal and communication skills and be confident in making decisions.
These knowledge, skills and abilities are normally obtained in the process of acquisition of a degree in Biomedical Engineering, training in Facilities Management with at least five (5) years experience in a similar or related job.
