BioMedical Technician
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Applicants must have:
· Associate’s degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology, Electronics, or a related field. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
· Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a biomedical technician or similar role in a healthcare setting.
· Certification as a Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) preferred.
· Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing medical devices, understanding of electronic circuits, and familiarity with diagnostic software.
Job Summary: The Biomedical Technician is responsible for maintaining, calibrating, and repairing a variety of biomedical equipment and systems used in patient care within the hospital. This role ensures that all medical devices operate safely and effectively, adhering to regulatory standards and hospital policies. The Biomedical Technician works closely with the Biomedical Engineer to support the hospital’s clinical needs, ensuring the availability and functionality of critical medical technology.
Key Responsibilities:
Equipment Maintenance and Repair:
· Perform routine maintenance and scheduled inspections on biomedical equipment.
· Diagnose and repair malfunctions in a wide variety of medical devices.
· Conduct performance verification and safety testing to ensure equipment compliance with regulatory standards.
Installation and Calibration:
· Assist in the installation of new biomedical equipment.
· Calibrate devices to ensure accurate and reliable operation.
· Maintain calibration records and documentation.
Technical Support:
· Provide technical support and training to medical staff on the proper use and care of biomedical equipment.
· Respond promptly to service calls to minimize equipment downtime.
Inventory Management:
· Maintain an inventory of biomedical equipment, spare parts, and tools.
· Manage equipment service records and maintenance logs.
· Assist in ordering and replenishing supplies as needed.
Compliance and Safety:
· Ensure all equipment complies with hospital policies, as well as government regulations.
· Participate in safety inspections and audits.
· Adhere to infection control and biohazard protocols.
Documentation and Reporting:
· Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections.
· Prepare and submit reports on equipment status and maintenance activities.
· Assist in the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for equipment management.
Continuous Improvement:
· Stay updated on technological advancements and best practices in biomedical engineering.
· Participate in continuing education and professional development opportunities.
· Contribute to process improvement initiatives within the department.
Key Competencies:
· Problem-Solving and Abilities: A Biomedical Technician must possess strong problem- solving skills to diagnose and repair complex medical equipment efficiently. This involves logical thinking and the ability to troubleshoot issues methodically to restore device functionality quickly.
· Communication Skills: Effective communication is crucial for a Biomedical Technician. This includes clearly explaining technical issues and solutions to medical staff who may not have a technical background, as well as documenting maintenance activities and creating detailed reports.
· Attention to Detail: Precision is essential in biomedical technology. A keen attention to detail ensures that all maintenance and repairs are performed accurately, preventing potential malfunctions that could impact patient safety and care.
· Time Management: Biomedical Technicians must manage their time effectively to handle multiple tasks and service requests efficiently. Prioritizing urgent repairs and routine maintenance schedules is crucial to minimize equipment downtime and ensure uninterrupted patient care.
· Teamwork and Collaboration: Working well within a team is vital for a Biomedical Technician. Collaboration with other healthcare professionals and engineers helps ensure the seamless operation of medical equipment and supports the overall healthcare
Salary will be paid in accordance with the experience and requirements of the post with the terms stipulated by The Board of St. Jude Hospital.
