Support students with behavioural issues by developing tailored strategies, conducting assessments, and creating behaviour plans. Work with those with learning difficulties or autism, train staff, and collaborate with professionals to promote positive change and improve the learning environment.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITY

  1. Conduct comprehensive Functional Behaviour Assessments (FBAs) to identify underlying causes, triggers, and patterns of challenging behaviours in students.
  2. Develop, implement, and monitor evidence-based Behaviour Intervention Plans (BIPs) tailored to the individual needs of students, incorporating preventative strategies and skill-building techniques.
  3. Participate in Individualised Education Plan (IEP) meetings and contribute to the development of behavioural goals, objectives, and support strategies aligned with students’ educational and developmental needs.
  4. Maintain detailed, accurate, and up-to-date documentation of assessments, intervention plans, behavioural data, progress monitoring, and outcomes, in accordance with regulatory and ethical standards.
  5. Formulate and implement proactive and reactive crisis intervention strategies, including de-escalation techniques and emergency protocols, to ensure the safety and wellbeing of students and staff.
  6. Communicate effectively with parents, school leaders, guidance counsellors, teachers, and students to ensure a collaborative and informed approach to behavioural support.
  7. Provide direct individual and group-based instruction and support to students aimed at promoting positive behavioural change, emotional regulation, and social skills development.
  8. Systematically monitor and evaluate student progress through the use of data collection tools and behavioural tracking systems to inform decision-making and adjust interventions as needed.
  9. Prepare clear and concise reports on student progress, behavioural interventions, and outcomes, and communicate findings effectively to families and relevant stakeholders.
  10. Deliver training, coaching, and consultation to school staff on evidence-based behavioural strategies, classroom management techniques, and mental health awareness.
  11. Uphold professional ethical standards and demonstrate cultural competence in all interactions, recognising and respecting the diverse backgrounds and needs of students and their families.
  12. Collect, analyse, and interpret behavioural data to support effective intervention planning and contribute to whole-school positive behaviour support initiatives.
  13. Complete a minimum of 60 Essential Learning Hours annually to enhance professional knowledge and skills.
  14. Perform any other related duties as assigned by a supervisor or senior officer to contribute to the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the Ministry of Education. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s Degree in Behavioural Intervention and Therapy
  • Behavioural Therapy Certificate 
  • Three (3) to five (5) years’ experience working in the respective subject area/discipline and/or in a supervisory capacity

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Sound knowledge of Government structure, policies and procedures
  • Excellent knowledge of the Education Act, education systems and other standard operating procedures 
  • Strong understanding of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), Functional Behaviour Assessment (FBA), and Behaviour Intervention Planning (BIP)
  • Strong knowledge of child development, mental health, and inclusive education practices
  • Strong knowledge of Individualised Education Plans (IEPs), special education processes, and legal/ethical guidelines
  • Proficiency in collecting, analysing, and interpreting behavioural data to inform practice
  • Ability to design, implement, and monitor effective behavioural interventions and crisis response strategies
  • Strong skills in delivering individual and group-based instruction to support emotional regulation and social skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication with students, families, teachers, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong knowledge in training, coaching, and supporting school staff in behaviour management techniques
  • Strong documentation and report-writing abilities for monitoring, evaluation, and stakeholder engagement
  • Cultural competence, ethical awareness, and the ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
  • Strong Problem-solving, decision-making, and adaptability in high-pressure situations
