Position Summary: The Bar Attendant is responsible for supporting the bar team in all aspects of bar operations, ensuring the efficient preparation and serving of beverages, maintaining a clean and organized bar area, and providing excellent service to guests and servers. This role requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and adherence to all health, safety, and liquor laws in Saint Kitts and Nevis.
Key Responsibilities:
I. Beverage Preparation & Service Support:
- Drink Preparation: Prepare and serve a variety of non-alcoholic beverages (juices, sodas, water) and basic alcoholic drinks (e.g., pouring beer, serving wine, simple mixed drinks) as directed by the Mixologist or Manager.
- Garnish & Ingredient Prep: Assist the Mixologist in preparing and replenishing garnishes, syrups, purees, and other cocktail components.
- Ice Management: Ensure a continuous supply of clean ice is available and manage ice storage.
- Order Fulfillment: Assist in fulfilling drink orders for both bar patrons and restaurant servers efficiently and accurately.
- Glassware: Ensure all glassware is clean, polished, and readily available for service.
II. Bar Operations & Maintenance:
- Bar Setup & Breakdown: Assist with the daily setup and breakdown of the bar area, including stocking shelves, organizing bottles, and preparing work station.
- Stocking & Replenishment: Continuously monitor and replenish bar stock, including liquor, beer, wine, mixers, garnishes, and other supplies from storage.
- Inventory Support: Assist with taking inventory counts and reporting low stock levels to the Mixologist or Manager.
- Equipment Care: Clean and maintain bar equipment (e.g., blenders, coffee machines, ice makers) and report any malfunctions or maintenance needs.
- Cleanliness & Organization: Maintain a consistently clean, tidy, and organized bar area throughout the shift, including countertops, sinks, bar tops, and floors. Follow a "clean as you go" policy.
- Waste Management: Dispose of trash and recycling properly and regularly throughout the shift.
III. Guest & Server Interaction:
- Guest Service: Greet guests warmly and professionally, taking drink orders as needed, and ensuring their needs are met at the bar.
- Order Taking: Assist in taking drink orders from walk-in guests and passing them accurately to the Mixologist or preparing them if capable.
- Responsible Service: Support the Mixologist and management in adhering to all local liquor laws regarding responsible alcohol service (e.g., monitoring guest consumption, assisting with ID checks if required).
- Basic Inquiries: Answer basic guest questions about beverage offerings or direct them to the Mixologist/Manager for more detailed information.
- Communication: Maintain clear and polite communication with guests, servers, and other team members.
IV. Compliance & Safety:
- Hygiene & Sanitation: Adhere strictly to all food and beverage safety, hygiene, and sanitation regulations, including proper handwashing and handling of food/beverage items.
- Safety Procedures: Follow all workplace safety procedures and report any hazards or incidents immediately.
- Legal Compliance: Ensure all operations comply with relevant health codes, safety regulations, and liquor licensing laws of Saint Kitts and Nevis.
V. Administrative & Teamwork:
- POS System: Learn and competently use the Point of Sale (POS) system for entering orders, printing tickets, and basic transaction processing.
- Cash Handling: Assist with basic cash handling or transaction processing as instructed by management.
- Team Collaboration: Work effectively as part of the bar and restaurant team, assisting colleagues as needed to ensure smooth service.
- Professionalism: Maintain a professional appearance and attitude, demonstrate punctuality, and have a strong willingness to learn and improve.
- Flexibility: Be flexible and willing to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays, as business demands.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred.
- Previous experience (6 months to 1 year) in a bar, restaurant, or customer service role is highly desirable.
- Basic knowledge of common alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
- Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work efficiently and accurately in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Basic math skills.
- Must be of legal drinking age in Saint Kitts and Nevis.
- Understanding of basic health, safety, and hygiene standards in a food and beverage setting.
- Willingness to learn and take direction.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
- Frequent bending, lifting, and carrying of items up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to ascend and descend stairs and ramps.
- Manual dexterity for handling glassware and bar tools.
