A reputable organization in the hospitality industry is seeking suitably qualified candidates to fill the position of Baker. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing baked goods and dessert items to customer specifications while ensuring strict adherence to established quality, food safety, and operational standards.

Job Purpose

To prepare desserts and baked items according to customer specifications while ensuring that all pre-established standards are maintained.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Completing required production documentation and daily operational checks, including time and temperature records.
  • Producing desserts, pastries, sauces, chutneys and baked items in the appropriate quantities and to required standards.
  • Receiving ingredients and conducting quality and quantity checks prior to use.
  • Weighing and measuring ingredients in accordance with approved recipes and established working procedures.
  • Operating ovens and baking equipment according to required settings and procedures.
  • Conducting quality checks on finished products to ensure taste, colour, texture, and presentation meet required standards.
  • Preparing, labeling and packaging special items as required in accordance with specifications.
  • Cutting, plating and decorating desserts, as well as bagging bulk bakery items in required quantities.
  • Ensuring all items are properly wrapped, labeled, date coded, stored appropriately, and refrigerated immediately in line with HACCP requirements.
  • Maintaining FIFO standards and conducting daily checks on expiry dates, labeling, quality, and storage practices.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Professional certificate in Culinary Arts or in a similar field

  • Minimum 2 experience in baking, pastry, or food production in a commercial environment.

  • Working knowledge of food safety standards, including HACCP.

  • Strong attention to detail, quality, and cleanliness.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet production deadlines.

  • Flexible to work shifts, weekends and public holidays as required.
