SALARY SCALE: $4,374,529.20 - $5,051,451.60 per annum.
JOB SUMMARY:
To carry out maintenance work on the utility vessel and to assist with the maintenance of navigational aids.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- IMO STCW Reg. II/4 Certificate of Competence (Able Seafarer) PLUS
- At least two (2) years’ experience on a vessel 500 gross tonnes and over
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The good housekeeping of the vessel
- Securing cargo in hold and on deck
- Rigging when lifting heavy cargo
- The lowering and weighing of the vessel anchor
- The preparation of the buoys and navigational aids deployed by the utility vessel
- Inspection of buoys and cargo handling gears.
- Handle or Captain small boats.
- Ensure crew is carrying out safe working practices and preserving marine environment.
- Maintain good ship husbandry.
- Maintain navigational aids.
- Operate deck machinery such as winches and cranes.
- Perform Helmsman duties.
- Carry out watchkeeping duties while at sea.
- Manage deck inventory.
- Plan the daily work schedule under the purview of the Chief Officer and assign work to the deck crew.
- Ensure the work assigned to the crew is completed.
- Maintain the deck of the ship; tasks involve chipping, painting, buffing and the overall maintenance of the deck.
- Maintain of the ship’s deck machinery (crane, winches) to ensure they are at their optimum performance during stations. Perform repair work onboard as required.
- Being thorough with the firefighting aspects of the ship and ensuring that other deck crews are thorough as well.
- Responsible for the ship’s deck stores, paint locker, Bosun store and other such areas as assigned to the Bosun by the Chief Officer.
- Ensure that the mooring operations, anchoring, etc. are carried out efficiently.
- Inform the Chief Officer of the progress of the deck work being carried out.
- Act as the link between officers and crew to ensure smooth coordination of shipboard operations.
- Any other duties assigned.
