PANDEMIC FUND BIOSTATISTICIAN (EARLY WARNING SYSTEM)

The objective of the Biostatistician provide the data collection, monitoring , analyzing support needed to expand and strengthen the monitoring, analysis and reporting functions of CARPHA’s regional integrated electronic real time surveillance system at CARPHA and in CARPHA Member States (CMS). The biostatistician will be responsible for the achievement of a key deliverable in Component 1: Strengthening and Expanding Integrated EWS.

 

Academic Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, Demography or a related field, and post-graduate qualification in public health or a related field.

• Desirable: An MPH would be an asset.

Experience:

• At least 8 years’ relevant experience in health information and vital statistics

• Computer based statistical data management and analysis, preparation of reports and training of individuals in statistics.

• Work experience in epidemiology, and/or surveillance.

Expert Knowledge and Skills:

• Expert knowledge of written and spoken English

• Demonstrated ability to effectively use a computer with extensive knowledge of and experience in the use of a variety of statistical software and epidemiological packages (for example: SPSS, STATA, R, DHIS2)

• Extensive knowledge and experience in database management and spreadsheet software applications (for example: PostgreSQL, Excel)

• Proven ability to communicate and to write technical documents in a clear and concise manner

• Ability to work harmoniously as a member of a team, adapt to diverse cultural and educational backgrounds and maintain a high standard of personal conduct.
