Required Skills

  • Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of automotive systems including engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, and electrical components.
  • Diagnostic Ability: Skilled in using computerized diagnostic equipment and interpreting error codes to identify issues accurately.
  • Mechanical Aptitude: Ability to disassemble, repair, and reassemble vehicle components efficiently and safely.
  • Attention to Detail: Thorough in inspections and repairs to ensure quality and safety standards are met.
  • Customer Service: Capable of explaining technical issues to customers in a clear and professional manner.
  • Time Management: Efficient in managing multiple tasks and meeting repair deadlines.
  • Team Collaboration: Works well with other technicians and service staff to ensure smooth operations.
  • Safety Awareness: Knowledge of workplace safety procedures and proper handling of tools and hazardous materials.
  • Computer Literacy: Familiarity with automotive software systems for diagnostics, service records, and inventory management.
  • Continuous Learning: Willingness to stay updated with new technologies, tools, and repair techniques through training and certifications
  • Qualifications
  • Manufacturer-Specific Certifications – Offered by brands like Toyota, Ford, GM, etc., for technicians working at dealerships.
  • Vocational or Technical School Diploma – Often required or preferred for foundational training.
  • Electric Vehicle (EV) Certification – Increasingly important as EVs become more common would be an asset
  • Safety Certifications – Such as OSHA training
