Auto Electrician 

(Based in Kingston)

Reporting to the Auto Electro-Mechanical Supervisor, this position is responsible for diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing electrical and electronic systems within the company's fleet, including commercial motor vehicles, heavy equipment, and specialised units. The role is ensuring fleet reliability and safety by keeping all electro-mechanical components operating efficiently and in accordance with manufacturer and company standards.

 

key Duties and Responsibilities Include:

Conducting Diagnostic Electrical Testing, including using electronic diagnostic equipment and scan tools to identify and interpret electrical and electronic faults in vehicle and electro-mechanical systems.

Servicing and Repairing Motor Vehicles, including:

  • Test-driving vehicles to confirm faults and verify repairs;
  • Removing, dismantling, cleaning, repairing, and reassembling defective components;
  • Replacing worn or faulty parts in accordance with manufacturer and company standards

Carrying Out Electrical Repairs, including:

Replacing faulty components and conducting system checks. Inspecting and rectifying faults in fuses, wiring, circuits, sensors, control modules, horns, windows, locks, alarm systems, and interior and exterior lighting;

  • Diagnosing and repairing electrical faults in air-conditioning circuits;
  • Testing battery condition and charging systems, and replacing batteries or components as required;
  • Correcting faults by replacing defective parts and performing the necessary checks

Installing Electrical Systems, including GPS units, radios, communication equipment, horns, lighting systems, and other approved electrical accessories.

Testing Headlight Alignment and Intensity ensuring that industry safety, quality, and regulatory standards are met.

 

Ideally, the successful applicant should possess:

  • Certification from HEART/NSTA Trust or NVQJ Level 2 in Automotive Technology, Certification from the Jamaica-German Automotive School (JAGAS) or equivalent training from a recognised institution;
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ related experience;
  • A valid General Driver’s Licence (Open);
  • A strong understanding of fault diagnosis and troubleshooting techniques for vehicle electrical systems.
  • Sound knowledge of automotive electrical and electronic systems, including wiring, sensors, starters, alternators, lighting, and control modules;
  • Excellent manual dexterity and precision to ensure the safe and accurate installation of wiring and components.
