Provide one-on-one support to individual on the autism spectrum. Implement individualised support plans to promote independence, communication, and social skills in educational, and at home settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Behavioral Intervention: Implement Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) techniques or behavior support plans to encourage positive behaviors and reduce disruptions.
- Educational Support: Assist with classroom and therapy activities, organize materials, and keep students focused. Re-integrate all activities learned in therapy at home.
- Skill Development: Help individuals develop communication skills (e.g., using PECS), social skills, and daily living skills like self-care and hygiene.
- Safety and Monitoring: Maintain a safe environment, provide close supervision, and monitor emotional and physical well-being, often involving light lifting or managing physical outbursts.
- Data Collection: Track daily progress, behaviors, and academic data to assist teachers, parents or therapists in adjusting strategies.
- Community Integration: Assist individuals with community activities, such as shopping or social outings.
Requirements
- Education: Minimum of a high school diploma.
- Experience: Previous experience working with children or adults with autism is required.
- Certifications: CPR/First Aid certification or specialized training in the field.
- Skills: Strong communication, patience, empathy, ability to work independently, and capacity to work within a team.
