The Associate to provide integral support to our clients through quality legal work, sound advice and through our robust network of industry professionals to ensure our optimal and complete service to our clients.
The Associate Attorney-at-Law’s role is to provide legal services to the firm’s clients, uphold the firm’s reputation and contribute to its success. Duties will include but are not limited to:
(i) Conducting thorough legal research on case law, legislation and legal precedents to support client matters;
(ii) Preparing drafts of letters, contracts, pleadings, legal opinions and other relevant legal documents;
(iii) Attending legal proceedings, including hearings, trials, case management conferences, tribunals, conciliations, all-parties meetings, to provide legal and administrative support. This includes:
a. assisting the firm with case preparation, organising legal documents, liaising with clients and court staff, and ensuring that all necessary materials are available for said proceedings;
b. taking detailed and accurate notes during court appearances, client meetings, Attorney conferences, ensuring court orders / directions, next steps and key points are properly recorded and documented; and
c. preparing summaries of proceedings, draft follow-up correspondence and support the firm in post-hearing case management.
(iv)Attending upon vessels with respect to executing ship arrests and/or other related admiralty legal work;
(v)Working closely with partners, colleagues, Counsel and support staff to ensure efficient case management and progression;
(vi)Assisting with the firm’s development efforts, including networking, preparing publications for the firm’s website, writing articles and participating in client or professional engagement activities;
(vii)Providing administrative and other support (when required) to both the firm’s Legal Secretary / Office Manager;(viii)Transcribing legal documents and filling out administrative forms;(ix)Managing files and clients;
(x)Preparing, managing and tabbing bundles of documents and briefs as may be required;
(xi)Preparing, arranging and managing documents for electronic and/or in-person filing and service as may be required;
(xii)Communicating with opposing Attorneys-at-Law and other parties, clients and judicial administrative staff; and
(xiii)Communicating with other persons and bodies as may from time to time be required.
The ideal candidate should possess the following:
•A Law Degree and Legal Education Certificate and Legal Practice Course.
•Strong and varied experience in litigation, corporate and commercial law.
•Possess keen and effective research capabilities.
•Commendable time management capabilities to complete tasks with accuracy.
•Excellent oral and written communication skills.
•Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with stringent deadlines.
