The Assistant Vice President, Underwriting holds accountability for the entire credit granting process with the goal of maximizing portfolio growth while also minimizing loss provisioning.

ROLE & CORE FUNCTION

This position holds accountability for the entire credit granting process, including ensuring the relevance and consistent application of credit policy and procedure, periodic credit reviews of existing customers, and the assessment of the creditworthiness of potential customers, with the goal of maximizing portfolio growth while also minimizing loss provisioning.

Ensure that the strategic priorities of all phases of the credit management function (from client-specific underwriting and adjudication, to ongoing portfolio maintenance) for the Bank are met.  This includes but is not limited to:

  • Solidifying the engagement and relationships with our clients as part of the Organisation’s distinct competitive advantage, while ensuring that the Bank’s interests are also adequately protected
  • Providing management and leadership oversight of the underwriting function
  • Ensuring that credit policy and procedure at all times safeguard the Organisation’s interests, and that such policy and procedures are adhered to.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review and administer the credit underwriting processes to accommodate current and future credit products and elevate credit operations to support best in class credit products
  • Oversee service delivery to internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely and high-quality credit decisioning
  • Measure the Credit function’s performance and provide impact reports to the business
  • Produce key management reports and respond to ad hoc requests
  • Maintain ongoing surveillance of credit portfolio and ensure that facilities are being paid in accordance with established terms, and that delinquent credit facilities are monitored and actively managed to minimize loss
  • Keep abreast of changing trends and developments in financial services to ensure that the Organisation’s credit function is a strategic enabler of the business
  • Provide expert advice to ensure timely prioritization, execution, and delivery of key projects and initiatives relating to the Credit function
  • Ensure effective design and oversight of the credit function
  • Conduct ongoing coaching and training of both the Sales and Credit teams to ensure that the Organisation’s credit function affords the Bank a distinct competitive advantage
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Master’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline OR Chartered Accountant OR Chartered Financial Analyst
  • Record of progressive responsibility assumed over at least ten (10) years’ experience in corporate credit or investment banking
  • Robust working knowledge of lending regulations and guidelines within the jurisdiction
