ASSISTANT SHIFT MANAGER

JOB PURPOSE

Responsibility for effectively managing and utilizing assigned resources in vessel and housekeeping operations.  Be fully responsible for the performance of direct reports and staff discipline.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide efficient organization and control of assigned resources (labour and equipment) during vessel and yard operations in order to achieve planned objectives and set KPIs.  This includes ensuring full accountability of all containers handled during vessel operations and liaising with Shift Manager (Execution) and Planning Section counterparts to conduct periodic reviews on current vessel & yard operations.
  • Liaise closely with KFTL Security & Safety Coordinators to ensure implementation of safety policies and procedures and utilization of safe working practices for all Terminal operations
  • Conduct vessel safety inspection and report any unsafe conditions arising to the Safety Section and Shift Manager on duty, investigate and advise Shift Manager of any accidents or incidents of damage, and prepare and file necessary reports
  • Liaise with ships’ officers on exact lashing requirements and obtain signature on the KFTL’s Lashing Completion Form prior to vessel sailing, secure KFTL’s lashing tools during and after vessel operations, and ensure that vessels dock and sail according to KFTL’s Berth Planning Prospects and Berthing Policy
  • Ensure the completion of all relevant documents as required by management during designated shifts, including Vessel Monitoring and Forecasting Plan 
  • Maintain continuous work flow by ensuring all direct reports on shift adhere to the “hot seat” changeover procedure and be punctual at all times
  • Assist with the development of KFTL Operations staff to ensure optimum performance levels

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Production & Operations Management from a recognized institution or equivalent qualification
  • Five (5) years’ working experience in a senior position in the Shipping Industry
  • Training and experience in supervisory management with thorough knowledge of its principles and practices
  • Knowledge of Terminal Operations and customer service principles and practices
  • Integrity and ethics, excellent judgement, leadership and motivation
  • Problem solving and time management
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to work in teams
