Assistant Restaurant Manager

The Assistant Restaurant Manager plays a key role in supporting the Restaurant Manager in leading daily operations, supervising staff, and maintaining the highest standards of service. Acting as second-in-command, this position ensures smooth service flow, supports staff development, contributes to sales growth, and maintains operational efficiency. In the absence of the Restaurant Manager, the Assistant Restaurant Manager assumes full leadership of the team to deliver exceptional guest experiences.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

  • Assist in managing daily restaurant operations, ensuring smooth service flow in both front-of-house areas.
  • Oversee floor activity, guest interactions, and service quality.
  • Act as Manager-on-Duty when required.

Staff Supervision & Training

  • Support the Restaurant Manager in training, mentoring, and motivating staff to deliver exceptional service.
  • Monitor staff performance, provide feedback, and assist with performance reviews.
  • Ensure adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Guest Experience

  • Greet and engage with guests to ensure satisfaction.
  • Resolve complaints promptly, professionally, and to the guest’s satisfaction.
  • Monitor guest feedback through comment cards, online reviews, and direct interactions.

Financial & Sales Support

  • Assist with staff scheduling, ensuring labor costs remain within budget.
  • Support sales growth through upselling initiatives and special promotions.
  • Monitor average spend per guest and recommend improvement strategies.

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and sanitation regulations.
  • Maintain operational readiness for inspections.

Coordination & Communication

  • Collaborate with the culinary and bar teams to align menus, promotions, and service delivery.
  • Assist with inventory checks, ordering, and supplier coordination.
  • Provide input for operational and financial reports.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as an Assistant Restaurant Manager or Supervisor in a high-volume, full-service restaurant or hospitality venue.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Excellent guest service and conflict resolution abilities.
  • Knowledge of POS and reservation systems.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
