Assistant Parks & Landscaping Manager

We are seeking a highly experienced Assistant Parks & Landscaping Manager to join our team at our premier luxury private islands in Antigua and Barbuda that include a world-class resort, fine dining restaurants, several private residences, and a conservatory.  This role supports the operational and administrative functions of the Parks & Landscaping Department.  It involves people leadership, liaising with internal stakeholders, maintaining compliance with safety regulations and deputizing for the Parks & Landscaping Manager.

 

SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Day-to-day Operational Management Support – provide comprehensive operational support by assisting with landscape management, coordinating projects, and overseeing the farm, nursery, and arboretum. Responsibilities include managing waste, recycling, and pest control programs; handling purchasing, inventory, and requisitions; preparing schedules and project sheets; supervising unloading and reconciliation of supplies; and ensuring equipment maintenance. Additionally, the position involves preparing estimates and reports, monitoring active projects, and continuously reviewing departmental processes to maintain efficiency and accuracy.
  • People Management – provide people management support by preparing fortnightly work schedules in consultation with the Parks & Landscaping Manager, allocating manpower to meet departmental objectives, and reviewing and approving staff timecards and meal records. It also involves handling employment matters such as discipline and performance management in compliance with company policies and collective agreements and participating in regular meetings with staff and supervisors and documenting outcomes to ensure smooth operations and accountability.
  • Stakeholder Relations – act as the point of contact for key internal stakeholders to provide regular progress updates and address issues as they arise, ensuring effective communication and smooth resolution of concerns.
  • Safety/Risk Management - enforce safety and risk management practices within the department ensuring the team is properly trained through regular safety sessions, particularly for operating large equipment or handling hazardous materials, and using appropriate personal protective equipment.  Verify that all required licenses and certifications are maintained and up to date.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Post-secondary degree or trade school diploma in landscaping and/or horticulture required
  • Bachelor’s Degree relative to the landscape industry preferred
  • Demonstrated advanced-level computer skills (Microsoft Office)
  • At least 5 years of experience managing a landscaping department or company of at least 20 employees
  • Good knowledge of Caribbean and Antiguan horticulture and plant species
  • Good knowledge of Caribbean and Antiguan wildlife and ecosystems
  • Experience in both daily landscape maintenance and large landscaping installation projects
  • Experience in beach development and erosion issues in an ecologically sensitive environment preferred.
  • Experience managing in a unionized environment preferred.

Other

  • Legally authorized to work in Antigua and Barbuda. Open to local and OECS candidates or Caricom Certificate holders.
  • Valid and clean Driver's License required.  Commercial license preferred
