Assistant Maintenance Manager

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and results-oriented Assistant Maintenance Manager to assist in overseeing all plant maintenance activities and ensuring the maximum efficiency and reliability of production equipment, utilities, and facility infrastructure.

The successful candidate will help ensure that all maintenance activities strictly adhere to pharmaceutical and food safety standards, manufacturers' specifications and equipment manuals, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and ISO Standards.

JOB FUNCTIONS

Maintenance Management

  • Maintain and execute preventive and predictive maintenance programmes in line with company SOPs and industry standards (GMP, ISO, SQF, HACCP).
  • Ensure equipment is operational, reliable, and properly maintained.

Planning & Coordination

  • Support the Maintenance Manager in scheduling and executing maintenance activities.
  • Coordinate maintenance work to minimize downtime and maximize operational efficiency.

Inventory & Vendor Management

  • Manage critical spare parts inventory.
  • Coordinate with external suppliers, contractors, and service providers.

Process Improvement

  • Provide technical support to production and maintenance teams.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
  • Recommend equipment upgrades and process improvements to enhance efficiency and reliability.

Technical Oversight

  • Supervise equipment setup, operation, repairs, cleaning, and installation of mechanical and electrical components.
  • Ensure maintenance work is completed efficiently and safely while minimizing production interruptions.

Monitoring & Reporting

  • Monitor equipment performance, downtime, and maintenance activities.
  • Prepare maintenance reports and recommendations for management.

Administrative Support

  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.
  • Analyze maintenance data to support operational decision-making.

Training & Compliance

  • Identify maintenance staff training needs and facilitate equipment-related training.
  • Ensure adherence to food safety, quality, GMP, and ISO standards.

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE / TECHNICAL PROFICIENCY

  • Strong knowledge of PLC systems, HVAC systems, packaging equipment, and plant utilities, including:
    • Compressed air systems
    • Generators
    • Electrical systems
    • Water systems
  • Knowledge of liquid processing and packaging equipment.
  • Knowledge of electrical installation and industrial mechanical systems.
  • Working knowledge of plumbing, welding, and fabrication.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to supervise maintenance personnel while supporting production requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent technical training from a recognized tertiary institution.
  • Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years' experience in maintenance within a food manufacturing, pharmaceutical manufacturing, or chemical processing environment.
  • Supervisory or management experience would be a distinct asset.
