The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Cayman Islands Government, is currently inviting applications for the following post:

CI$111,360 - CI$146,124 (USD $133,900 - $55,500 approx)

 

About the role

The Assistant Director will support the Director of Public Prosecutions in the execution of the functions of the Office and specifically, will lead and manage the International Cooperation and Financial Crime Team, undertake general legal advisory work and prosecute complex criminal trials and appeals in the superior courts pursuant to s.57 of the Cayman Islands Constitution.


Responsibilities include:

  • Managing all functions of the seven strong International and Financial Crime Team, involving international mutual legal assistance, US MLAT requests, FATF compliance and advising law enforcement agencies
  • Managing and taking responsibility for instituting and undertaking criminal proceedings on behalf of the director
  • Leading on compliance aspects both locally and internationally, developing and leading appropriate training and development interventions for the Team
  • Supporting policy development alongside other strategic issues

 

About you

Applicants should hold at least ten years’ relevant post-qualification experience, to include:

  • A Solicitor, Barrister or Attorney-at-Law qualified to practise in an English-speaking Commonwealth jurisdiction;
  • Comprehensive knowledge and practical criminal litigation or advocacy experience in the higher courts and appellate courts in a wide range of complex areas of criminal law;
  • Recent practice as a prosecutor in a commonwealth jurisdiction up to Court of Appeal level (within the last 5 years);
  • At least three years of experience at a senior management level, which includes providing visible leadership to ensure the timely and efficient delivery of prosecution services;
  • Proven experience of sound decision making in the most serious, difficult and complex cases;
  • Proven ability to handle the most sensitive matters and maintain prosecutorial independence;
  • Strong skills in the following areas: advocacy, leadership, management, decision making, communication, negotiation, legal research and analysis.
