The successful candidate will have direct oversight over the Claims Department to assist in driving the overall strategy of the Business Unit of excellent customer service through efficient and fair claim settlement.

FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

 Claims Management: [Oversee the claims process from initial notification to final settlement/recovery, ensuring timely and accurate handling by:

  • Ensuring the fair and prompt handling and settlement of claims
  • Determining the validity of claims and assess the extent of the Company’s liability
  • Ensuring that adequate reserves are maintained
  • Ensuring that service standards are achieved
  • Approving claims payments and ensure their timely disbursement.
  • Ensuring the recovery of monies owed to the company by liable parties
  • Reviewing outstanding claims, closing files as necessary
  • Making recommendations to the Underwriting Team to improve portfolio
  • Advise clients on matters relating to the settlement of claims
  • Prepare reports to the General Manager on the activities and achievements of the department
  • Assist in the formulation of policies
  • Review files for Third Party Payments as soon as details are received
  • Participate in Arbitration matters.
  • To submit notification to reinsurers as required.
  • Any other duties

REQUIRED SKILLS/EDUCATION:

  • Bachelors Degree in Business Administration , and/or  enrolment in the ACII programme or equivalent
  • Minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in the General Insurance Industry in motor claims and underwriting, two (2) of which must be in Management.
  • Human Resource Training would be an asset
  • Strong Problem-Solving Skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to lead large teams

SPECIALIZED TECHNIQUES/KNOWLEDGE

  •  Job requires sound knowledge of Motor Insurance and Reinsurance
  • The ability to make quick and responsible decisions.
  • Sound knowledge of claims settlement procedures and market practice.
  • Ability to display tact and diplomacy with proven negotiation skills.
  • Ability to train and motivate staff
  • High level of Human Relations and Time Management Skills
  • Strong analytical and computational skills
