Our client in the Banking and Finance Sector is seeking to hire an Assistant Accountant.

Salary Range: $18K - $22K

Job Purpose

The Assistant Accountant is responsible for administering the accounting system to ensure the integrity of financial records. This includes coordinating day-to-day accounting functions, maintaining robust internal controls, ensuring compliance with regulatory and financial reporting standards, and delivering accurate, timely financial information.

The Assistant Accountant supports organizational strategy through diligent cash flow management, budget coordination, and policy development. By mentoring direct reports, collaborating across departments, and liaising with external auditors, the Assistant Accountant ensures financial transparency, integrity, and continuity within the Client’s organization.


Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Recommend accounting policies, procedures, and controls in alignment with best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate the month-end close process and prepare preliminary financial statements and internal management reports.
  • Monitor and manage daily cash flow to ensure adequate liquidity for operational needs.
  • Assist in preparing the Client’s annual budget by analyzing financial and economic data, identifying trends, and supporting accurate forecasting and financial planning.
  • Review and validate accounting entries, reconciliations, financial records, and supporting documentation for accuracy and compliance with IFRS, internal standards, and relevant laws.
  • Ensure timely and accurate remittance of statutory deductions and tax filings.
  • Ensure appropriate accounting treatment for complex financial instruments and investment products.
  • Complete all bank and other reconciliations within prescribed deadlines, resolving discrepancies as needed.
  • Coach and develop direct reports to enhance team efficiency and accuracy.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation to support audit readiness year-round.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure member satisfaction and internal service delivery.
  • Perform other related duties as required by the Client.


Qualifications & Experience

  • ACCA professional designation.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in financial services.
  • Any equivalent combination of qualifications and experience will be considered.

  • Knowledge of investment accounting and budgetary control systems.
  • Strong reporting, communication, and organizational skills.
