The Advocacy Manager will develop, implement and evaluate advocacy and policy change agendas to promote the work of AHF at national level in consultation with the Country Program Manager and Operations Manager.
Plan, develop and monitor implementation of policy change work and advocacy strategies according to AHF’s mission and core values;
· Implement AHF Jamaica advocacy priorities in keeping with AHF’s Advocacy and Marketing Framework
· Plan, develop and implement advocacy programmes on issues of key human rights and HIV importance.
· Monitor and analyse developments in priority areas affecting vulnerable population to inform development of appropriate strategies, projects and actions.
· Provide research and analysis on human rights issues, and produce reports, briefing papers, articles and other materials, and on the policy environment in Jamaica and the wider Caribbean to influence decision making, inform stakeholders and raise awareness among key populations.
· Participate on committees, technical working groups and other fora to influence human rights and HIV related law, policy and programmes to improve the health and well-being of vulnerable groups.
· Coordinate and communicate AHF advocacy and policy change programs with other national and strategic allies (stakeholders, policy makers and liaison with national media), to support the development of networks / coalitions.
· Build appropriate partnerships with other organizations to develop policies in relation to AHF’s advocacy agenda;
· Promote the work of AHF at national level;
· Maintain good working relationships with AHF partners and external agencies;
· Provide information on funding opportunities to support advocacy work at the country level;
· Undertake other duties as required.
OTHER KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS
· Participate in team meetings, the development of strategic and operational plans and other internal processes as required
· Represent the organisation to policy and decision-makers, private sector leaders, practitioners, think-tanks, academia, the media and the public
· Support key civil society partners in the HIV response with technical assistance to develop, implement and monitor their advocacy initiatives
· Build, expand and strengthen effective working relationships between the organization and key partners, including NGOs, governments, intergovernmental organisations, human rights bodies and experts, private sector, faith leaders, community-based leaders, journalists and LGBT community members.
· Contribute to the writing, editing and dissemination of publications
· Undertaking such other tasks, including administrative and logistical tasks, as are necessary for the effective operation of the organisation.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Policy and/Advocacy Manager
QUALIFICATION
Degree in Public Policy, Communications, Political Science or related field
