About this position

The IDB Country Office in Barbados is looking for an active undergraduate student to be hired as a 2026 intern under the Consultant modality. 

The Country Office Internship Program is a paid opportunity for university students from member countries to learn about development work and corporate management of the Bank and to acquire work experience at the professional level through on-the-job learning.

What you’ll do

  • General Administrative Support - Support in organizing and maintaining digital records; Draft, format, and send routine correspondence and emails. Assist with the monitoring and organization of invoices to be processed.
  • Meeting and Event Support - Assist in scheduling meetings; Prepare meeting materials (e.g., agenda); Support logistics for in-office events or workshops (e.g., room bookings, requesting quotations for catering).
  • Reception and Visitor Coordination - Greet and assist visitors; Answer and direct calls or take messages under supervision.
  • Supplies and Inventory - Help monitor and restock office supplies; Assist in placing orders and tracking deliveries.
  • Mail and Courier Coordination - Receive, log and distribute incoming mail and packages; Prepare outgoing mail or courier shipments.
  • Support to Specific Projects - Assist with administrative tasks for ongoing initiatives (e.g., wellness programs, engagement activities, staff events).

What you'll need

  • Education: An active undergraduate student in Business Administration, Management, Communications or related field or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role.  The graduation date cannot be prior to the last day of the Internship
  • Languages:  
        -    Proficiency in English
  • Soft Skills: Detailed oriented, proactive, organized, adaptable, collaborative, innovative, client-oriented, strong communicator, self-motivated, eager to learn and excellent time management skills.
  • Technical skills: Microsoft Office Suite; Online Meeting and Collaboration Platforms (e.g. Microsoft Teams, Zoom); Office Equipment Operation. Canva would be an asset. 

Requirements

  • Citizenship: You are a citizen or a legal resident of Barbados.
  • Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
  • First job at the IDB Group: Be a first-time participant in an Internship Program held by the Bank or Inter-American Investment Corporation (“Corporation” also known as “IDB Invest”). In addition, you have not been a former staff member, Complementary Workforce (“CW”), contractor for the Bank or the Corporation, or have previously provided services to the Bank or the Corporation through a contractor or under any other contractual modality.
  • Submit your resume, cover letter, academic transcripts (official or unofficial), and university letter certifying your student status when applying.
    • If you submit an unofficial academic transcript at the time of applying, you will be requested to present an official academic transcript if moving forward in the process.
  • Academic transcripts and university letters should be issued within the last three months.
    • For undergraduate students, the second year of school must be completed at the time of applying.
  • Applications without the requested documentation will be disqualified.

  • You must be able to work 40 hours weekly during the indicated dates.
