The Accounts Supervisor will be responsible for the accurate preparation and maintenance of the accounts and financial affairs of the Credit Union while supervising the staff and supporting a cohesive work team and contributing to staff development.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Co-ordinates workflows to ensure optimum resource allocation and departmental efficiency.
  • Maintains accounting controls and financial security by ensuring that internal controls are complied with by all staff.
  • Monitors Accounts Payables and Receivables to ensure they are actioned in a timely manner.
  • Review all reconciliations prepared by the Accounts support staff for approval by the Finance Manager.
  • Ensure that all accounts are accurately recorded and all necessary reconciliations performed in accordance with pre-determined specifications.
  • Monitor liquidity on a daily basis including preparation of the daily cash and bank balances and advises on funding requirements for short term payments.
  • Review of Staff Payroll in accordance and company policies and other statutory requirements for approval by the Finance Manager.
  • Assists in preparation of monthly/quarterly/annual financial statements supporting schedules for Balance Sheet and Income Statements.
  • Maintain the Fixed Asset Register and ensure compliance with Fixed Asset Policy.
  • Maintain the monthly Investment Schedule for review by the Finance Manager.
  • Assist with procuring information on NEW investments to replace maturities.
  • Assists in the on-going review and development of work methods, systems and procedures for the improvement of operations.
  • Monitors activities to ensure policies, procedures and guidelines are adhered to at all times.
  • Prepare variance analyses reports for departmental budgets and advises on corrective actions.
  • Ensure all Statutory payments to BIR & NIB is completed according to deadlines.
  • Prepare Calculations for Green Fund Levy on a quarterly & annual basis.
  • Assist with the preparation of the Annual Tax Return submitted via Etax (online).
  • Train, coaches and mentors’ direct reports and assists in establishing and implementing department’s objectives.
  • Prepare Performance Appraisals for staff and recommends the appropriate Training and Development plans where necessary.
  • Assist in the preparation of policies and procedures for the department.
  • Preparation and review of Audit Schedules.
  • Liaise with Internal and External Auditors as required.
  • Performs any other duties related to the job function as may be assigned.

 

EDUCATION & TRAINING

  • Completion of or Pursuing ACCA, CPA, CIMA or possession of a Bachelors’ Degree in Finance or Accounting.
  • Training and Certification relevant to the role.
  • Proficiency in the use of Office Tools and other software relevant to job functions.

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

  • Three (3) to Five (5) years’ experience performing similar functions preferably in the credit union industry with two (2) years supervisory experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of the legislation and operating principles governing credit union accounting.
  • In-depth knowledge of IAS/IFRS accounting standards.
  • In-depth knowledge of financial reporting methods.
