Responsible for the accurate and timely execution of daily and weekly payment processes within the Finance Department

Our Client, Sangster’s Book Stores is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Accounts Payable Officer to join their Finance Department.

Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Accounts Payable Officer will be responsible for processing daily and weekly payments, maintaining accurate vendor records, preparing reconciliations, and ensuring timely payment of utilities and lease obligations.

This role requires strong knowledge of financial accounting principles, accounts payable processes, reconciliations, and journal entries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process daily and weekly accounts payable payments
  • Update and maintain vendor accounts and records
  • Prepare accounts payable reconciliations
  • Ensure timely payment of supplier invoices
  • Ensure store utilities are paid on schedule
  • Prepare monthly audit schedules
  • Prepare and post monthly journal entries
  • Assist with month-end closing activities
  • Maintain accurate financial records and documentation

Performance Expectations

  • Payments processed accurately and within established deadlines
  • Suppliers paid on time
  • Monthly audit schedules completed within established deadlines
  • Compliance with internal financial controls and accounting standards

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting
    OR
  • Accounting Diploma with five (5) CXC subjects including Mathematics

Required Knowledge & Technical Skills

  • Strong grasp of financial accounting principles and month-end processes
  • Proven ability to prepare reconciliations, journal entries, and audit schedules
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software
