Accounting Supervisor Position

Accounting Supervisor responsibilities include reconciling merchant statements, accounts payables, accounts receivables, verification of invoices, maintaining general ledger and preparing month-end close procedures while overseeing the work of accounts clerks and data entry staff. A successful accounting supervisor combines excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to assist the Senior Manager in preparing analyses for financial reports and sales forecasts.

The Accounts Supervisor duties also include ensuring accuracy and effectiveness in all of our accounting tasks.

Overview

We are looking for an Accounting Supervisor to oversee our accounting department’s daily operations.

You will work closely with the Senior Manager and Accountants to handle financial functions, including accounts payable/receivable, bank reconciliations and tax audits. Our ideal candidate uses strong analytical skills to create detailed financial reports and forecasts.

To succeed in this role, you should also have a problem-solving attitude and be able to manage a team.

Ultimately, you should be able to ensure our financial management is accurate and effective.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor the daily performance of the accounting department
  • Organize financial data into useable information and maintain updated records
  • Track the progress of financial and accounting objectives
  • Establish accounting policies and procedures, aligned with company’s targets
  • Ensure compliance with the law
  • Verify, allocate, post and reconcile accounts payable and receivable
  • Produce error-free accounting reports and present their results
  • Analyze financial information and summarize financial status
  • Spot errors and suggest ways to improve efficiency and spending
  • Provide technical support and advice on Quick Books and other financial software
  • Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures
  • Manage accounting assistants /clerks
  • Participate in financial standards setting and in forecast process
  • Provide input into department’s goal setting process
  • Prepare financial statements and produce budget according to schedule as necessary
  • Assist with tax audits and tax returns when required
  • Direct internal and external audits to ensure compliance
  • Plan, assign and review staff’s work
  • Support month-end and year-end close process
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP principles
  • Overseeing daily transactions (e.g. accounts payable/receivable, general ledger and bank reconciliations)

Requirements

  • Proven work experience as an Accounting Supervisor
  • Experience with accounting software (e.g. Quick Books/ Peachtree)
  • Strong computer skills, MS Excel in particular (managing spreadsheets, creating charts and using advanced formulas)
  • Solid knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles, laws and regulations
  • Excellent analytical skills to manage large amounts of data
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Team management skills
  • Ability to prioritize work
  • BS degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Accounting certification (e.g. CMA or CPA) is a plus
