Accounting Superintendent
The successful candidate will have primary responsibility for overseeing all financial and accounting operations to ensure efficiency and effective programme deliveries, Monitor Revenue and Expenses: ensures companies' financial wellbeing by tracking revenue and expenses, consolidating and analyzing financial data, preparing special reports, maintaining internal controls and other best practices, and reporting activity to internal and external stakeholders.
Main Responsibilities include:
Reporting to the Financial Controller, the selected candidate will:
- Manages/Perform a variety of professional accounting tasks relative to role and assist in delivery of the Company’s accounting processes and procedures including: financial reporting, cost accounting, asset management, bank, treasury and tax, statutory audit and all legal entity functions.
- Ensure effective financial management of DISCOVERY BAUXITE’s operations while assuring the adherence to the Company’s policies and procedures, local partnership agreements, and accounting conventions. Conduct internal audits, maintain internal processes compliance. Investigate and report.
- Supervise, assign and review work output of accounting staff. Duties include:
- Monitor preparation of monthly and year-end adjusting, closing entries and annual financial reports
- Monitor cheque preparation process by verifying that procedural requirements have been met before authorizing disbursement for loans and purchase requisition.
- Lead Accounting Staff: assign tasks and projects to Accountants, monitor and review to ensure accuracy, conduct performance evaluations.
- Prepare a variety of complex financial reports including monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports, operational cost reports, variance reports and financial forecasts for submission to corporate head office and/or the local management group:
- Direct the internal/external financial audit of the Company, manages the implementation of audit recommendations.
- Recommend or assist in the implementation of department goals and objectives, accounting policies and procedures.
- Recommend forecasting requirements, draft annual budgets, and project expenditures to prepare periodic statements and meet financial regulatory requirements. Analyze general ledger variances and suggest corrective action for management's approval to meet annual accounting financial objectives.
- Manage and monitor projects and accounting for fixed assets. Create project accounts. Capitalize projects on completion. Maintain fixed assets register. Conduct periodic audits of assets. Monitor the disposal of company assets. Ensure assets and project balances are reflected correctly in the financial statements.
- Liaison with various governmental, statutory, financial and other agencies external to the organization in carrying out required functions.
Required Competencies:
- Sound working knowledge of accounting principles and practices, computerized financial systems.
- Ability to analyze financial and statistical data. Strong eye for detail and accuracy.
- Strong Excel skills and numerical aptitude (experience in creating and maintaining complex spreadsheets).
- Ability to work well under pressure, prioritize workload, manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver stakeholder expectations in a fast-paced business environment.
- Good problem-solving abilities. Capacity to challenge existing processes and work collaboratively to improve the process. High level of reasoning and use of logics to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
- Excellent interpersonal; negotiation and communication skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to prepare and explain financial data to varied audiences and stakeholders.
- Sound knowledge of costing and manufacturing accounting
- Sound supervisory skills
- Proficiency in the use of computer-based office applications – MS Word, Excel, and Powerpoint: ability to create presentations, charts, graphs and spreadsheets.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelors Degree in Accounting OR Finance, CPA OR ACCA Level III designation
- Three to Four years’ experience in a senior capacity in a large manufacturing company
- Minimum 5 years auditing experience
