Sagicor Group Jamaica Limited is seeking a suitable candidate to join our Insurance Accounting team in the capacity of:

 

 

 

Accounting Officer

 

 

 Execute accounting functions at a level that will enhance the effective operations of the department and the achievement of its goals and objectives.

 

 

Location: Kingston 

 

 

 

As an Accounting Officer, you will:

 

  • Assist the Finance Manager in maintaining an accurate general ledger for Group premiums due and suspense accounts for Sagicor Life Jamaica, GEASO, GPASO and SGE- ASO.
  • Apply appropriate accounting policies and procedures, ensuring that all financial transactions relating to group premiums due, and suspense accounts are appropriately recorded, and that the ledger reflects the true financial condition of the company.
  • Assist the Finance Manager in monitoring outstanding claims (Group Life, Personal Accident, Accidental Death and Dismemberment).
  • Monitor interest on Group Life/Death Claims consistently for Individual Life Death Claims.  
  • Monitor and maintain balances on Employee Benefits Division’s Premiums Package Account Reconciliations.
  • Maintain an accurate General Ledger for the Premiums Due for relevant entities.
  • Monitor Investment Contracts Accounts for Sagicor Life Jamaica and Sagicor Life of the Cayman Islands.
  • Perform accounting for Individual Life Premiums paid via SLI Barbados intercompany transactions.
  • Perform other related duties assigned from time to time.

 

 

What do you need?

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance or equivalent qualifications from a recognized tertiary institution.
  • Knowledge of accounting standards (IFRS) and general accounting practices and techniques.
  • Prior knowledge in maintain accurate general ledgers and do financial reports. 
  • Working knowledge of polices and procedures related to the company’s operations.
  • Familiarity with computerized accounting systems.
  • Sound knowledge of computer software packages including spreadsheet and word processing applications.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • High level of motivation and excellent organizational skills.
