Sagicor Group Jamaica Limited is seeking a suitable candidate to join our Banking (SBJ/SIJ/SIC) team in the capacity of:
Accounting Officer - General Ledger Control
Provide accounting support to the General Ledger Control Unit, by ensuring that all financial and accounting related transactions are properly recognized and measured and reported in accordance with company policy and applicable accounting standards.
Provide technical support to internal clients and resolving issues in a timely manner.
Location: Kingston
As an Accounting Officer - General Ledger Control, you will:
- Process daily review of data upload to the General Ledger, ensuring that all transactions from the relevant systems are posted to General Ledger, investigating all errors and implementing resolutions.
- Ensure that the General Ledger period is updated.
- Test to ensure that the functionality of all systems is working in UAT, after changes.
- Prepare test scripts and cases for all tests carried out.
- Monitor all Error Suspense Accounts daily for subsidiaries within the Group.
- Investigate all balances in the error suspense account and follow-up with stakeholders to ensure they are cleared.
- Liaise with branches to ensure the timely receipt of reconciliation and ensure the reconciliations are free from errors.
- Play a major role in the administrative activities of the General Ledger Control Unit.
- Create users in assigned softwares.
- Reconcile and monitor assigned accounts.
- Investigate all balances that should have been cleared by EOD and liaise with teller supervisors to ensure clearance.
- Calculate surplus entries weekly.
- Perform other job-related duties assigned from time to time.
What do you need?
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or equivalent qualifications from a recognized tertiary institution.
- Experience in maintaining accurate General Ledger(s), Financial Reporting Applications and monitoring of key internal controls to safeguard the company’s assets and the assets of its clients.
- Familiarity with computerized accounting systems.
- Working knowledge of policies and procedures and knowledge of the company’s operations.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Sound knowledge of computer software packages including word processing and spreadsheet applications.
