The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing all accounting operations at Designs by Marc Limited, managing a small finance team, and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing all accounting operations, managing a small finance team, and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting. This role serves as the financial leader of the organization, managing day-to-day accounting functions while also contributing to strategic financial planning and business decision- making. The Accounting Manager will work closely with senior management to provide timely financial insights and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Oversee the complete accounting cycle including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and financial statement preparation
  • Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting
  • Prepare comprehensive financial reports and presentations for senior management monthly meetings
  • Analyse financial data and provide insights on business performance, trends, and variances
  • Monitor cash flow, working capital, and financial health of the organization
  • Manage and maintain the fixed asset register and depreciation schedules

Team Leadership & Supervision

  • Supervise, train, and mentor the Junior/Staff Accountant and Accounting Clerk
  • Assign and delegate accounting tasks based on team members' roles and development needs
  • Review and approve work prepared by team members, including journal entries, reconciliations, and payment processing
  • Ensure adequate cross-training and backup coverage within the department
  • Foster a collaborative and efficient work environment

Payroll & Payments Management

  • Oversee bi-weekly payroll processing, ensuring accuracy and compliance with all statutory requirements (PAYE, NIS, NHT, Education Tax)
  • Review and approve online payments and check disbursements processed by the accounting team
  • Ensure timely remittance of all statutory deductions and employee benefits
  • Maintain strong internal controls over all payment processes

Compliance & Controls

  • Ensure compliance with Jamaican tax laws, accounting standards, and company policies
  • Implement and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets
  • Coordinate and manage relationships with external auditors during annual audits
  • Prepare and present audited financial statements in collaboration with external auditors
  • Manage tax filings and liaise with tax authorities as needed
  • Ensure proper documentation and filing of all financial records

Strategic Planning & Process Improvement

  • Lead the annual budgeting process and develop financial forecasts
  • Participate in financial strategic planning and provide input on business initiatives
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement efficient accounting systems and procedures
  • Evaluate and recommend accounting software or system enhancements
  • Support management in financial decision-making with data-driven analysis

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required)
  • ACCA, CPA, or equivalent professional accounting certification (preferred or in progress)
  • Minimum 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience\
  • At least 2-3 years in a supervisory or management role
  • Experience with financial statement preparation and audit coordination
  • Experience with budgeting and financial planning processes
  • Knowledge of Jamaican tax regulations and compliance requirements

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks, Sage, or similar)
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, financial modelling)
  • Strong understanding of GAAP/IFRS accounting principles
  • Experience with payroll systems and statutory reporting
  • Familiarity with online banking and payment platforms
